Christina Aguilera's Blaccent

I know I should really know better than to ask this, but could Christina Aguilera be possibly any *MORE* ridiculous? I'm inexplicably watching Carson Dailey interview the moppett and I'm torn between her absolutely ludicrous "blaccent" (which makes Madonna's faux British accent of a few years back seem positively respectable) and her sincerely preposterous wardrobe.

Can't we have her snuffed out or at least deported or something?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 25 October 2002 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Easy: call John-boy Ashcroft, claim she's al-Qaeda, and sit back and relax as they haul her off to Guantanamo.

hstencil, Friday, 25 October 2002 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Also: what kind of massive 'celebrity breakdown' is she' destined for, seeing that she's basically tracing the steps of Mariah Carey but with bigger strides?

Alex, to make matters worse, the album is your worst diva-dreck-trainwreck nightmare (count em: 9 octave raping ballads). Also, she put some p!nk rock tracks on there and pulls in a disappointing Lil Kim cameo for extra brownie points.

I for one am not curious as to what a "raping ballad" could be. Yeesh.

hstencil, Friday, 25 October 2002 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

''and sit back and relax as they haul her off to Guantanamo''

we'll shave her hair off. or else we could put a burka on her.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 25 October 2002 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

oops that should have been octave-raping, 9 ballads, not octaves (or who knows). More ridiculous stuff: new rolling stone cover wearing nothing but a guitar, and people are already speculating over what her Glitter will be like.

Honda, Friday, 25 October 2002 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

perharps aguilera has been listening to 'Electric ladyland' a bit too much.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 25 October 2002 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i, for one, am quite pleased with the track of christina's career. it's a hell of a lot more interesting than low, for god's sakes.

JOOLS, Friday, 25 October 2002 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't follow careers JOOLZ!!

i just love the fact that people used to smirkingly refer to her as "X-Tina", and then the other day on MTV i saw those 5 letters running down the leg of her tightasspants. she's made it her own!

Aguilera in proving Momus right shockah!

Daniel_Rf, Friday, 25 October 2002 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

She should really fire her stylist (but a question: is it the same person as the costume designer of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome?).

hstencil, Friday, 25 October 2002 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Christina Aguilera eats cannibals!

Ally, Saturday, 26 October 2002 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Im thinking a couple of things.

For one, it's at least more interesting for her to go all the way then stay so middle of the road, especially with this American Idol crap getting so big.

Two, is the pop thing over? It seems to be out, along with Nu Metal. I havent seen TRL in a little while, but I think girls have replaced NSYNC with New Found Glory and Jimmy Eat World. Maybe this is what the pop stars are reduced to, lowest common denomenator. I hope Brittney just releases a hardcore beastiality porn to out-do her.

David Allen, Saturday, 26 October 2002 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Britney would never do that because she knows how to stage-manage herself. I like what Kate Sullivan said about Christina: "is such a Las Vegas hotel room tragedy waiting to happen, it's not even funny. Poor kid. She has a newly acquired vacancy in her eyes that suggests the presence of very, very good drugs. On TV she said something about her new street-hooker look--something like, I'm not ashamed of my sexuality and I don't think any female should be. Wow, Christina, I never thought about it that way. It's like a whole new world of liberation I'd never imagined possible. You are truly a thinker for our time." My main problem with this is that Kate doesn't go into near enough detail on why she's saddened and/or disgusted with this.

I luv Xtina!

Xtina/Britney = Jim Morrison/Lou Reed

dave q, Saturday, 26 October 2002 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously tho I can't think of anything stupider than criticising somebody for being a bad influence on their fans

dave q, Saturday, 26 October 2002 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

She seems to shock/horrify a lot of people. Excellent. Why presume she's stupid and/or on drugs & therefore doesn't know how she's being perceived? I thought THAT was Britney's thing.

alex you seriously trouble me, what the fuck is a 'blaccent'

ep, Sunday, 27 October 2002 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"Dirrty" is a great song and is helping set the stage for the Great Superfluous-"R" Pop Music Song Title Revolution. Viva! Also she dresses like a big whore.

adam (adam), Sunday, 27 October 2002 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think Xtina likes herself anymore than many of us like her.

toraneko (toraneko), Sunday, 27 October 2002 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

''alex you seriously trouble me, what the fuck is a 'blaccent'''

its just the sort of 'play with words' you get from a killing joke fan ep.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 27 October 2002 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

(a) Up yours, Julio, you pompous poop, and stop dishonoring the fire!

(b) Re:'Blaccent': I didn't make the term up. Blame the parlance of popular culture, if it offends you. But I think it aptly describes the heavily affected manner of speech Mz.Aguilera has adopted in a desperate attempt for some sort've harder "street credibility," and I'm embarassed for her.....which is not to say I don't think anyone should speak that way, but that it's clearly not an honest gesture on her part: she's trying to be something that she isn't, and it's a flimsy disguise.

"'pop/rock star tries to be something he/she isn't' shockah! "

Cop-out argument.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 27 October 2002 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

You expected something different, Alex?

I just don't know why anyone cares. She's a very easy celebrity to ignore because her image isn't exactly one that drives the corporate culture after her - there is no Britneyesque mass market saturation with Christina. She's Mariah Carey at warp speed. NO ONE seems to actually like Christina Aguilera, it's like she's famous for being awful and laughable.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 October 2002 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

NO ONE seems to actually like Christina Aguilera, it's like she's famous for being awful and laughable.

I like "Genie" and "Dirrty." And she does have a good voice.

I think she makes a horrible sex symbol though. I don't find Britney attractive either, but I can understand why others might -- Christina, however, has an ugly face, an ugly body (no curves or muscle tone or anything), and a weird jaundice to her skin tone that doesn't complement her blonde hair.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 27 October 2002 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that's why she dresses like that and acts like that. She knows she's freaky looking, this is her compensation.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 27 October 2002 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

And she does have a good voice.

Yes she does, but she's a lousy singer (I'm gonna use this little self-coined catchphrase again because I'm damn proud of it, I know it's annoying and I don't care) : a great singer uses their voice to serve a song; she, however, uses a song to serve her voice. (most blatant example: "I Turn To You"; she's toned it down since)

Daniel_Rf, Sunday, 27 October 2002 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"sorry if I ain't perfect, sorry i don't give a *what*, sorry i ain't a diva, sorry just know what i want, sorry i'm not a virgin, sorry i'm not a slut, i won't let you break me, think what you want!...... all mah underdogs, i feel ya" Christina Aguilera

Honda, Monday, 28 October 2002 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

She's Mariah Carey at warp speed.

Meaning, obviously, that she decided to skip out the very few occasions when Mariah was actually any good (Vision Of Love, for instance) and went straight to overwrought vocal histrionics. Is she sort of like Linda Lovelace in Deep Throat except with the erogenous zone in her larynx causing her to feel pleasure when she sings loud, high and screechy, I wonder.

seven months pass...
Christina, however, has an ugly face, an ugly body (no curves or muscle tone or anything), and a weird jaundice to her skin tone that doesn't complement her blonde hair.

I take it back, sorta. I think she's hot as hell, esp. with her new black hair. And I'm not into tans but the darker skin works for her.

Re her "blaccent": she's Hispanic and she was born in Staten Island and lived there until the age of eight. That's a pretty standard Nuyorican accent you're hearing.
