Luther Vandross singing "A House Is Not a Home" at the 1988 NAACP awards, with Dionne Warwick totally beaming and Janet Jackson's panties melting off in the audience.

Rick James & Teena Marie performing a 24-MINUTE version of "Fire and Desire" (plus some other Teena stuff as a bonus) in 1981...with several mentions of toe licking.

The thread title immediately brings to mind unwanted imagery from "The Room"

Re the Sam and Dave, there's another amazing live version of that I'll try to find later, where Sam comes in in the middle of Dave's verse with this tremendously sung "Whoa-oa-oah sing a song Dave!" and the audience goes nuts. I think they were nearly on par with Otis Redding as singers and performers but maybe didn't quite get as good material and also had the slight noveltyishness of being a male duo.

Controversy
Brian McKnight's x-rated song upset a portion of his religious fan base, resulting in the removal of the video from Youtube. He got the idea for the x-rated song during a Twitter session with his fans. A vocal minority questioned him for releasing the song, primarily due to his being raised in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. One Twitter one fan asked McKight; "Are or we're (sic) you really a 7th Day Adventist?" "I grew up that way," replied McKight. "And now your (sic) not?" "Religion was man made," answered McKnight.(15)
