I love just about every song on the first, love the singles and half the second, but because "Umm Hmm" won't get love I'll give it some.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 6 March 2015 15:54 (ten years ago)

any song on the 1st > any song on the 2nd except "window seat"

k3vin k., Friday, 6 March 2015 15:56 (ten years ago)

The more I force comparisons with SITKOL, the more sense it makes. Like "Love's In Need of Love Today," "Amerykahn Promise" makes for an comparatively underwhelming opening salvo what becomes a much more complex work.

Eric H., Friday, 6 March 2015 15:59 (ten years ago)

The only songs I wouldn't really consider voting for:

Amerykahn Promise
Real Thang
Umm Hmm
You Loving Me (Session)
Incense

Eric H., Friday, 6 March 2015 16:00 (ten years ago)

i listen to pt. 2 more often these days, it's one of my favorite summer records. pt. 1 needs a more particular mood/context.

lil urbane (Jordan), Friday, 6 March 2015 16:02 (ten years ago)

if pt 1 is her masterpiece in album form, "out my mind, just in time" might be her masterpiece in single song form

lex pretend, Friday, 6 March 2015 16:18 (ten years ago)

(everything here is a masterpiece)

lex pretend, Friday, 6 March 2015 16:18 (ten years ago)

she's recorded a few masterpieces. I lean towards "Green Eyes," "The Cell," and the still mighty "On & On."

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 6 March 2015 16:23 (ten years ago)

she's recorded a few masterpieces

#1 on the list of things that go without saying.

Eric H., Friday, 6 March 2015 16:28 (ten years ago)

I'm sorta glad to read this because my immediate fear upon seeing this poll is that Return of the Ankh would be completely shut out. Don't get me wrong, 4th World War is a masterpiece, but I feel like RotA gets overlooked a lot of the time as a result of being the follow-up.

That said, I'm probably still going to vote for "The Healer."

That shit right there is precedented. (cryptosicko), Friday, 6 March 2015 16:31 (ten years ago)

As an ignorant art-rock dilettante I gotta call 2 as the better album and the long one as the best song (vmic)

vacuum head tree disease (imago), Friday, 6 March 2015 16:33 (ten years ago)

Twinkle is astounding as well though

vacuum head tree disease (imago), Friday, 6 March 2015 16:33 (ten years ago)

I don't think I gave RotA enough of a chance, really, but it was always going to be tough to compete with 4WW.

emil.y, Friday, 6 March 2015 16:46 (ten years ago)

I voted for the Healer in the last poll, so I might go with Master Teacher or Window Seat or That Hump this time

the saer returns (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 6 March 2015 17:44 (ten years ago)

(Though I might go with Out My Mind just out of sheer appreciation of the fact that Lex and LJ are both voting for the same thing here)

the saer returns (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 6 March 2015 17:48 (ten years ago)

Just in time.

Eric H., Friday, 6 March 2015 18:16 (ten years ago)

1. gone baby don't be long (this song is just)
2. window seat
3. that hump
4. soldier
5. honey

J0rdan S., Friday, 6 March 2015 18:23 (ten years ago)

My god this is hard. Hard to vote against The Healer, but it's also hard to vote against everything else. Gonna throw my vote at That Hump.

thom yorke state of mind (voodoo chili), Friday, 6 March 2015 22:01 (ten years ago)

Shit Jump Up in the Air and Stay There is really good. And so is Master Teacher. And Out My Mind.

I really need to listen to Part 2 again damn

thom yorke state of mind (voodoo chili), Friday, 6 March 2015 22:08 (ten years ago)

My instinct says "The Cell" cause that's the one I bumped the most when these came out but "Telephone" just destroys me every time.

raih dednelb (The Reverend), Friday, 6 March 2015 22:11 (ten years ago)

I think "The Cell" is when people first started noticing Thundercat,or at least going "who the hell is that bass player?"

lil urbane (Jordan), Friday, 6 March 2015 22:15 (ten years ago)

definitely was for me

raih dednelb (The Reverend), Friday, 6 March 2015 22:16 (ten years ago)

any song on the 1st > any song on the 2nd except "window seat"

insane

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 6 March 2015 22:20 (ten years ago)

The thing about "The Healer" is that its position on the album magnifies its impact. I pretty much love every single song on both of these albums but the way that icy march slides in behind the gloriously messy, syncopated prelude hits me like a sledgehammer every single time I hear it.

DJP, Friday, 6 March 2015 22:28 (ten years ago)

window seat

een, Friday, 6 March 2015 23:17 (ten years ago)

for me its between Window Seat, The Healer, Me and Soldier. Went for The Healer

cajunsunday, Friday, 6 March 2015 23:22 (ten years ago)

i was reading the part 1 liners this afternoon and ty dolla sign (as part of ty & kory) sings on "master teacher"

J0rdan S., Saturday, 7 March 2015 20:36 (ten years ago)

Think I've gotta go "The Cell."

Eric H., Thursday, 2 April 2015 00:23 (ten years ago)

Went with Master Teacher.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 2 April 2015 01:36 (ten years ago)

The Turn Me Away (Get MuNNY) --> Gone Baby, Don't Be Long --> Umm Hmm --> Love stretch is key for me.

Though I like Part 1 a lot more than I used to.

Tim F, Thursday, 2 April 2015 04:18 (ten years ago)

"Love" second on my ranked-choice ballot.

Eric H., Thursday, 2 April 2015 04:28 (ten years ago)

Went Telephone. Song destroys me every time. But what a pair of albums...

System, Friday, 3 April 2015 00:01 (ten years ago)

My only beef with these results is no votes for "Honey" or "Turn Me Away"

The Reverend, Friday, 3 April 2015 00:50 (ten years ago)

yea master teacher getting 4 votes and honey getting none is messed up

een, Friday, 3 April 2015 01:57 (ten years ago)

voted for "Umm Hmm."

k3vin k., Friday, 3 April 2015 02:50 (ten years ago)

xxxp "Master Teacher" is like top 3 in this poll tho stay woke

The Reverend, Friday, 3 April 2015 05:18 (ten years ago)

it feels quite weird that there are so few visuals from these albums - just "honey", "window seat" and "jump up in the air" right?

lex pretend, Monday, 6 April 2015 16:22 (ten years ago)

wasn't there one that had something to do w/fly-lo

There was a "Window Seat (Remix)"/"Turn Me Away" video that had her robbing a convenience store with Rick Ross or something but it seems to have disappeared?

The Reverend, Monday, 6 April 2015 20:15 (ten years ago)

The first piano-led part of "Out My Mind, Just In Time" got a clip: https://vimeo.com/30523772

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 3 October 2019 12:38 (five years ago)

I mentioned this album on FB a couple days ago, was told it had only one track, wanted to stab this poster in the neck.

This poll needed way more voters.

Both albums will be in the top 2 positions on my aughties album ballot.

Pauline Male (Eric H.), Thursday, 3 October 2019 13:30 (five years ago)

Pt. 2 is 2010, no?
