Do your listening habits change with the season?

Mine do.

I find myself craving extreme metal and noise music in the springtime. This is totally unconscious, not to mention incongruous with the mellowness of the season. Surely the wintertime would work better for this kind of music, but I dunno - maybe it's just a habit that got formed a while ago, or perhaps the winter is already bleak and krieg enough not to warrant it.

Winter used to be techno-time, but in my older years it's Jacques Brel, Tom Waits, Scott Walker - lots of arch-crooners. And of course January/Feb is traditionally pop, dance and hip hop thanks in no small part to EOY.

I can listen to reggae and dub any time of the year but really it has to be summertime to have the right impact.

Also something I've noticed that I can't put my finger on, but p sure my listening vacillates from pop to leftfield and back dependent on something in the ether of some sort.

Somewhat! The sun has started to peek out and I find myself listening to a lot more Elephant 6 and otherwise sunny indie pop that didn't sound at all appropriate to the bleak, grey backdrop of winter.

it's almost entirely weather-dependent, never mind the season, and i cannot comprehend people for whom this isn't the case

back when i was a young Gorky's fan, I used to hypothesise on there being GZM album for every season.

no not really.

although i think we all all oversaturated with too much choice to feel settled in a genre.

my listening habits don't really change based on weather or season. they do change depending on if i'm at home or out in transit though.

Spotify has a new thingy that gives you your seasonal preferences, though I can't figure out how to get back into it at the moment. If I recall correctly, I listened to power pop in two seasons and indie rock in the other two.

Definitely listen to more Cure when it's raining/overcast out. Lou Reed/Nico/Kevin Ayers during the autumn. Punk rock/garage in the summertime.

Spring: metal, industrial, krautrock, electro, the more alienating the better.

autumn is the best season for listening to music and the only one in which half my favorite albums make sense

totally.
reggae = the start of spring.
as soon as that sun shines, then i need that beat.
metal et al = darker clouds and grey, and therefore is a groove for later in the year.
the rest i am not so particular about, but reggae, metal are absolutes when it comes to the weather.

oh, and deep winter = ambient/fax

cannot abide upbeat happy grooves when outside is grey and nasty.
