this is such a perfect idea for a cover i can't believe it hasn't happened before. s vega's laconic and slightly bored voice => b spears' robotic blankness, of course

and it fits right into the britney mythology. "i open up the paper / there's a story of an actor / who had died while he was drinking / it was no one i had heard of." the narrator is anonymous, an invisible observer. britney's escape into normality~

not so sure about the "love is a drug" male vox that burst in halfway through, the glitz of the beat is fine but doesn't quite need that

it seems to be from an imminent giorgio moroder album but that involves sia so i'm sceptical that it'll be up to much

lex pretend, Thursday, 30 April 2015 15:06 (ten years ago)

it sounds listless and terrible to me. I gave it a couple of increasingly desultory plays last weekend.

I know what you mean about the marriage of material and performer, but it's too on the nose. To project boredom she sounds vacant.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 30 April 2015 15:12 (ten years ago)

Moroder's clueless nowadays. The man always balanced out the brilliance with some awful cheese but I think he should stop before the legacy is totally destroyed.

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Thursday, 30 April 2015 15:21 (ten years ago)

I think this is amazing. The bridge lets it down a little bit, but I love Britney's performance and the whole sound of it. Moroder's album is one of my most anticipated this year. 74 is the new 24!

Leonard Pine, Thursday, 30 April 2015 15:29 (ten years ago)

the video above is pitched-down a notch - the actual version is great and I'm really hoping there will be a video.

Roz, Thursday, 30 April 2015 15:33 (ten years ago)

yeah the bridge is awful but the rest is pretty cool. I much prefer the arrangements and sounds of the verses to the chorus though.
As for the pitch, I agree that her voice seems a bit to low but it seems to be the official version : where did you get the "actual" version ?

AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 30 April 2015 15:45 (ten years ago)

That YT is not official (notice how there's an apostrophe after GirogioMoroderVevo), the pitch is slowed down to avoid copyright robots. The real deal leaked about a week ago and Giorgio even put it up on his youtube, but he removed it again for some reason.

oh OK, thanks !

AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 30 April 2015 15:55 (ten years ago)

that's MUCH better !
I really like the change of chords in the verses. I don't remember the original had these chords.

AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 30 April 2015 15:57 (ten years ago)

this is horrible - so cheap and pointless

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 30 April 2015 16:14 (ten years ago)

this is bad and pointless lol xp

johnny crunch, Thursday, 30 April 2015 16:15 (ten years ago)

this is pretty awful but given that moroder's album has the likes of matthew fucking koma on it, it's probably not even going to be the worst track on it

("right here, right now" is great though

katherine, Thursday, 30 April 2015 16:18 (ten years ago)

(or for that matter, given that britney is releasing a song with igloo australia in a few days, the worst britney track this year)

katherine, Thursday, 30 April 2015 16:19 (ten years ago)

terrible

Arctic Noon Auk, Thursday, 30 April 2015 16:20 (ten years ago)

At first few listens I'm with Alfred, but I'm sure I'll change my tune after hearing it approximately 800 times at rooftop Sunday brunches throughout June.

Eric H., Thursday, 30 April 2015 16:28 (ten years ago)

The pitched down version is better, but that's true of almost every song ever.

Eric H., Thursday, 30 April 2015 16:29 (ten years ago)

the album art looks like a hi-gloss :( emoticon which is fitting

katherine, Thursday, 30 April 2015 16:33 (ten years ago)

yeah fuck this

soyrev, Thursday, 30 April 2015 16:35 (ten years ago)

ha now i can't unsee the horrified emoticon and it's hilarious

irl sweatpants (Hunt3r), Thursday, 30 April 2015 16:44 (ten years ago)

afaik she's only on one track, which has already been released. I prefer that and the Kylie song to the Britney one tbh.

misterjoshua, Thursday, 30 April 2015 19:22 (ten years ago)

Once you get past the novelty of "oh hey, it's Britney!" this track aint up to much.

Greer, Thursday, 30 April 2015 22:29 (ten years ago)

The Kylie song deserved to be a hit. I'm curious to hear the Charli XCX and Foxes contributions to this but otherwise expect it to be a snooze.

bae sremmurd (monotony), Thursday, 30 April 2015 23:05 (ten years ago)

DNA, the fellas who made the original remix of the Vega track did a bunch of good stuff
