sort of feel like i was the only one around who thought his latest, "baliando", was a classic. looking at his discography you almost forget what a quietly solid career he's had. on another note i did not realize how many songs he did with pitbull

*votes for "escape" and runs*

"escape" is amazing

k3vin k., Tuesday, 2 June 2015 16:05 (ten years ago)

not that anyone would've voted for it but i think this is missing "don't turn off the lights"

"I Like To Conjugate Bailar"

da croupier, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 16:06 (ten years ago)

leaning towards "escape" but the absence of "don't turn off the lights" IS making me feel bad because it's great

da croupier, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 16:07 (ten years ago)

for me it's between "escape" "be with you" and "baliaNDO", though i'll admit to not having heard/not remembering a few of his more minor ones

k3vin k., Tuesday, 2 June 2015 16:07 (ten years ago)

i also appreciated how "don't turn off the lights" came out around the same time as "turn off the lights" by nelly furtado - a worthwhile debate

da croupier, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 16:07 (ten years ago)

so difficult!
i've had many good nights bowling to 'i like it' so i'd be doing it a disservice voting elsewhere
(agree escape/escapa is a jam too btw)

nxd, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 16:08 (ten years ago)

huh i must have accidentally deleted "don't turn off the lights" when i copied and pasted from wikipedia, apologies

k3vin k., Tuesday, 2 June 2015 16:10 (ten years ago)

"Escape" holds a special place in my heart because it coincidentally sounded a lot like a song that my brother and I were recording a few months before that album's release, which I believe was titled "Run Away".

MarkoP, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 16:16 (ten years ago)

guitar harmonics on "don't turn off the lights" are really great, i forgot how much i liked this

insufficiently familiar with xgau's work to comment intelligently (BradNelson), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 16:20 (ten years ago)

escape for sure. just did a lipsync performance with my wife to that song a few weeks back

Spottie, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 18:35 (ten years ago)

baby he was born to sing over four on the floor

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 18:35 (ten years ago)

i.e. I voted for "Escape."

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 18:35 (ten years ago)

basically the first four singles are the worst on this list

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 18:36 (ten years ago)

rhythm devine is so bad

Spottie, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 18:38 (ten years ago)

this song is so good and underrated, back when it came out the singer in the band i was in was obsessed with it and we covered it

some dude, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 18:38 (ten years ago)

i admire the "we really, really need Pitbull" transparency of Enrique and J.Lo's late period discographies

some dude, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 18:50 (ten years ago)

and Ne-Yo's.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 18:55 (ten years ago)

Really solid career and that's not even considering his spanish singles which were also huge hits in Latinamerica.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 19:17 (ten years ago)

His mid nineties Spanish singles are crap, and he got a major airplay push here.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 21:24 (ten years ago)

"I'm a Freak"

turly dark (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 21:27 (ten years ago)

Hero is a song I could live with never hearing again, Escape is a song that I never hear enough and so is winning my vote.

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 21:55 (ten years ago)

"escape" by a miiiiile

j. winters (josh), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 21:59 (ten years ago)

hero kinda works for me. love the back half of it tbf

Spottie, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 22:00 (ten years ago)

i fuck with "hero" -- it's basically a babyface song?

i think "bailamaos" is better than "escape" but both are great

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 2 June 2015 22:42 (ten years ago)

soft spot for the ping pong song, but i should relisten the majority of the singles in this list.

Nourry, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 22:47 (ten years ago)

"Hero" would be tolerable if he didn't sing like the producer held a knife to this throat.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 22:52 (ten years ago)

idk its kinda vulnerable?

Spottie, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 22:53 (ten years ago)

and where is his collab with ciara? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w55Nib4uf1U

Nourry, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 22:55 (ten years ago)

Part of my hesitation lies in my resistance to a certain kind of late nineties balladry.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 22:56 (ten years ago)

idk a Babyface production would sport acoustic strums or cool harmonies. "Hero" is low key Celine Dion.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 June 2015 22:56 (ten years ago)

ouch

Spottie, Tuesday, 2 June 2015 23:00 (ten years ago)

the 'can you feel the rhythm' part at the end of "rhythm divine" is lolsobad to the point where i basically enjoy it

i have very fond memories of screaming along to "escape" in the car w/ my hs friend but my fav here is "bailamos"

tbh i think the majority of his english-language singles after the ping pong song ("dimelo" is the better-sounding version anyways) are pretty bad. "bailando" was great tho, altho he has already come close to ruining it by hopping on the shameless facsimile "el perdon" this year

dyl, Wednesday, 3 June 2015 18:11 (ten years ago)

fave album track - very "escape" but that's no crime

da croupier, Wednesday, 3 June 2015 18:49 (ten years ago)

Would vote for "Ring My Bells" - had thought it was a single, heard it around enough! - but as much as I love "Bailando", I have a soft spot for "Bailamos" ever since my brother won two copies of the Wild Wild West soundtrack off the local radio station.
