There's an understandable lack of latin music on ILM, I'd like to use this thread to bring to attention some of these gems as I couldn't find any similar thread for them and I think you might appreciate some of these. As you might expect, they're very campy. I'll try to post at least once per week if you guys are interested in hearing more of these. If you have anything else that might fit in here bring them in.

Let's start with Luis Alva Lescano's productions. The biggest act he produced were 'Los Fantasmas del Caribe', I heard this one on a wedding on Saturday:

Fantasmas del Caribe - Muchacha Triste

Love the ridiculous buccaneer outfits.

He was involved in way too many 'tecno-tropical' productions so I'll limit myself to a few highlights and international hits under his belt:

Natusha - Rumba Lambada

Liz y Los Medolicos - Diavolo. I love this. Horror techno-merengue? The leading piano is supposed to evoke a tropical nocturne and the song is about a sort of caribbean-faust figure stalking its victim.

I love the next one. El General was a dancehall dj from Panama that ended up creating his own succesful blend of proto-reggaeton that was very influential in the following decades.

two years pass...

Mi banda el mexicano! Brilliant technobanda from the 80’s.

They have two timeless songs, a cover of ramito de violetas which is a very popular rumba song from spain and baile de caballito which is pretty fun to dance to.

A novelty cumbia/gregorian chant crossover hit “cumbia de los monjes” (the monk cumbia):

Both alienating and fun

There’s also a bit of terrible rap in there. Madly in love with this song if only for having the balls of attempting to mix cumbia, rap and gregorian chants in one and somewhat nailing it
