First record I ever bought, pretty weird in places iirc. Voted Bicycle Race

I love it, and think it's one of the best of their post-A Day At The Races albums. I definitely like it far, far more than News Of The World and The Game, anyway. It's fair to say that Queen always had a sense of humour, but it's definitely true of this album. One of their most playful records on the whole, I'd say.

It's funny, because while Roger Taylor is on record as particularly disliking the direction Queen went in on Hot Space, it's one of his tracks on this album that seems to foreshadow all of that: 'Fun It', which is the only track here that I dislike to the point where I'd hit the skip button/lift the needle to the next track/fast forward etc. I always felt that John Deacon was the only Queen member who successfully wrote in that particular style.

Don't Stop Me Now pretty easily for me. Jealousy and More Of That Jazz are good.

'More Of That Jazz' was a bit of a grower for me - one of those Queen tracks I didn't really like at first, but gained an appreciation for over time. I particularly like that chopped-up section of bits and pieces from the rest of the album.

On the whole though, I think Roger Taylor as a songwriter went off the boil quite a great deal from 1976-1981 - he managed to get the excellent 'Tenement Funster' and 'I'm In Love With My Car' on Sheer Heart Attack and A Night At The Opera, but I don't think he really hits form as a songwriter until The Works, really, with stuff like 'Radio Ga Ga', 'A Kind Of Magic' etc. On the other hand, John Deacon contributed some excellent and essential Queen tracks from 1975 right through until the end. His two songs on Jazz are brilliant and underrated.

wish i knew Queen a bit more. i once asked a music board (not this one) where i should start with Queen albums. never did get around to listening to any of them. i will vote "Fat Bottomed Girls" since i know that song.

Such a weird fucking album

too too hard. this album is a masterpiece. "don't stop me now" my big favorite when I was playing it every day (when I was a kid) but there's so many gems here.

Start with Sheer Heart Attack and A Night At The Opera, I'd say. Sheer Heart Attack was the one I heard first, aside from the two Greatest Hits.

this was a fave back in my heavy Queen listening days. Hard to vote for anything other than Don't Stop Me Now, but there's lots of good stuff here -- very good argument for Queen as a great band beyond their hits

Bicycle Race was formative song of my childhood. My dad ran a bike store in those days and was thrilled when this album came out. The poster of nude women lined up for a bike race was up on the wall in one of the offices in his shop.

Jealousy, hidden gem and one of the best of the non-greatest-hits material.

I always wanted to put up the poster in our home, in a nice and tactfully chosen frame, maybe in the bathroom. gf vetoed resolutely though.

I like that buzzy, sitar-like guitar sound that Brian May uses on 'Jealousy'... I think he uses it on 'White Queen (As It Began)' on Queen II as well.

There's a big ILX Queen poll coming up soon, isn't there? Can't wait for that... there's several selections from this record that I'd definitely consider for my ballot.

don't stop me now is my favorite queen song

It's amazing how much 'Don't Stop Me Now' has grown in popularity over the years, I'm fairly sure they very rarely played it live and only then on the tour for Jazz. Apparently Brian May in particular wasn't too keen on the track. It seems to have become incredibly popular, though, and remember hearing it quite a lot on nights out and stuff.

'Let Me Entertain You', 'Dead On Time', 'In Only Seven Days' and 'If You Can't Beat Them' all robbed!

Much respect to those that voted for 'Jealousy', 'Mustapha' and 'More Of That Jazz'!

Missed the poll, but would've voted for 'Mustapha', with 'Bicycle Race' a close second.
