the kneejerk response is probably grammer, cuz fuck a song that makes rednex sound crunk, but omi is just as grating in its own way

The lyrics suck, sure, but I don't find "Cheerleader" too offensive, maybe because I first heard it via the Felix Jaehn remix, which reminds me pleasantly of Klingande's "Jubel." "Honey I'm Good," meanwhile, feels constructed according to a formula that is determined to get me to hate it: an unctuous Dave Matthews/Adam Levine-y vocalist, a wink-nudge country stomp (I really cannot do better than "makes rednex sound crunk"), a lyricist that pats himself on the back for not being a dick in a way that comes off as powerfully dickish. As I said over at the 2015 Rolling Worst Songs thread, it is this year's "Rude." I doubt I'll hate another hit single this much all year.

as both songs are equally dickish in their way, i think the "this year's rude" element actually makes me prefer grammer - i think on some level i'd rather an obnoxious sentiment be expressed obnoxiously, you know?

i do think i prefer the original Cheerleader to the remix, but the lyrics will always be on the wrong side of irksome to properly enjoy it.

unlike "cheerleader" there is no indication this girl has even looked at, let alone propositioned him. he is concocting this elaborate scenario in which he is the hero who doesn't cheat

yeah, Andy Grammer is a guy congratulating himself for his faux-integrity when he's out schmoozing in bars. OMI is genuinely head over heels.

but where is OMI going where women say things like "do i make you feel like cheating?" and i dunno if i'd use the phrase "genuinely head over heels" to describe someone who says She grants my wishes like a genie in a bottle (yeah yeah)/ Cause I'm the wizard of love/ And I got the magic wand.

both are disgustingly self-congratulatory, grammer more in regards to the lady he could hypothetically be cheating with, OMI regarding the woman he's staying true to

cheerleader is amazing

as i said in the opening post, they're both current hits that basically have the same theme - "sorry, ma'am, i don't want to cheat on my romantic partner with you". They're very different sonically, and one spends more time describing the romantic partner, but i don't think it should be that difficult to wrap your head around what they have in common.

sry i just read all the lyrics to cheerleader for the first time, never noticed those lines before. the other song is so terrible lol
