Bee OK, Thursday, 9 July 2015 01:56 (ten years ago)

we are back after taking off for July 4th.

Bee OK, Thursday, 9 July 2015 01:57 (ten years ago)

this list is pretty solid after a lackluster year last year for the Top 30.

Bee OK, Thursday, 9 July 2015 01:57 (ten years ago)

Giant Steps without a second thought.

Bee OK, Thursday, 9 July 2015 02:09 (ten years ago)

This is sooo Exile in Guyville.

The New Gay Sadness (cryptosicko), Thursday, 9 July 2015 02:18 (ten years ago)

Between Midnight Marauders and Exile for me.

o. nate, Thursday, 9 July 2015 02:33 (ten years ago)

I love Painful, but I think I'm going with PJ Harvey in this one.

dart scar rashes (WilliamC), Thursday, 9 July 2015 02:42 (ten years ago)

Lots of really great stuff, but this is Guyville all the way. Such a great album, probably in my all-time top 20(-ish).

Turn That Pout Inside Out! (Old Lunch), Thursday, 9 July 2015 02:52 (ten years ago)

36 Chambers sounds right. Acclaimed Music otm.

jmm, Thursday, 9 July 2015 03:06 (ten years ago)

Orbital 2 without hesitation (shoutout to Midnight Marauders and Enter the Wu-Tang)

I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Thursday, 9 July 2015 03:09 (ten years ago)

dubnobass is easily the best of these IMO

then probably Very and Orbital 2

frogbs, Thursday, 9 July 2015 03:48 (ten years ago)

1 siamese dream
2 36 chambers
3 rid of me
4 black sunday
5 fumbling towards ecstasy

brimstead, Thursday, 9 July 2015 04:11 (ten years ago)

Painful, then Exile. I love about a third of Very.

clemenza, Thursday, 9 July 2015 04:26 (ten years ago)

I'll be the guy voting for Anodyne. Listened to that way more than anything else on the list.

that's not my post, Thursday, 9 July 2015 05:20 (ten years ago)

PJ Harvey without hesitation

Darin, Thursday, 9 July 2015 06:35 (ten years ago)

There's about nine or ten albums on this list that rank as some of my favourite records of all time. Ended up voting for In Utero just because it's the one that I feel like listening to the most today.

You’re being too simplistic and you’re insulting my poor heart (Turrican), Thursday, 9 July 2015 08:23 (ten years ago)

Painful

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 9 July 2015 13:13 (ten years ago)

What a year! Suede is an amazing record but since Dog Man Star is even better I'll save my vote for that. Siamese Twin is the record on this list I've had most fun with. Wu-Tang and Björk the ones I respect the most.

niels, Thursday, 9 July 2015 13:24 (ten years ago)

despite my easy vote, I think all of these albums are amazing:

1 120 Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
2 125 Nirvana - In Utero
4 140 Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
6 309 PJ Harvey - Rid of Me
7 516 The Breeders - Last Splash
9 566 Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggystyle
10 571 Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman
11 664 A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders
13 755 Orbital - Orbital ("The Brown Album")
14 836 Pearl Jam - Vs
16 860 Pet Shop Boys - Very
18 1135 Cypress Hill - Black Sunday

(I don't know that Stereolab album)

I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Thursday, 9 July 2015 13:30 (ten years ago)

other albums i love from this list are Siamese Dream, Suede, Modern Life Is Rubbish, New Wave and an album i only discovered a few years back that blew my mind Gentlemen.

Bee OK, Friday, 10 July 2015 15:34 (ten years ago)

see if you can guess what i voted for.?

cod latin (dog latin), Friday, 10 July 2015 15:37 (ten years ago)

I never really thought of 1993 as a particularly big year for me, but this list has changed that. so many big albums for me.

cod latin (dog latin), Friday, 10 July 2015 15:37 (ten years ago)

Two decades later, I've finally turned the corner on Debut. "One Day it'll all make sense," indeed.

Norse Jung (Eric H.), Friday, 10 July 2015 15:38 (ten years ago)

lol, Giant Steps?

xxpost

Bee OK, Friday, 10 July 2015 15:38 (ten years ago)

'course it is :-)

cod latin (dog latin), Friday, 10 July 2015 15:40 (ten years ago)

little shout out to Black Sunday, Vs, In Utero, Siamese Dream and Modern Life Is Rubbish, all of which made up a good bulk of my teenage listening.

cod latin (dog latin), Friday, 10 July 2015 15:42 (ten years ago)

seems like the CW favors Pod, but I think Last Splash is perfect. Kim Deal absolutely on fire.

campreverb, Friday, 10 July 2015 15:47 (ten years ago)

I think Very would be my second pick. It was the first Pet Shop Boys album I heard and lead me to a lot more great music (beyond PSB - I got interested in lots of other pop because of them), so it's a sentimental favourite.

jmm, Friday, 10 July 2015 15:51 (ten years ago)

Lots of great stuff here but I'm giving it to In Utero, slightly over Guyville.

evol j, Friday, 10 July 2015 15:57 (ten years ago)

I'm voting Rid of Me, but I always dug Wild Wood -- it's the only post-Jam Weller thing I can really get into (apart from a handful of Style Council songs).

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 10 July 2015 16:03 (ten years ago)

Shame Beaster doesn't count

Master of Treacle, Friday, 10 July 2015 16:08 (ten years ago)

Orbital II is the album that won me over to the dark side of repetitive electronica, and probably has more plays over the decades at Chez Sanpaku than any other album.

We'd like to conduct a wobulator test here (Sanpaku), Friday, 10 July 2015 18:49 (ten years ago)

I heard Icky Mettle in full the other day and was actually amazed how well sequenced it was (except for song #2 I think which was kind of out of place).

e-bouquet (mattresslessness), Friday, 10 July 2015 20:52 (ten years ago)

you're welcome

e-bouquet (mattresslessness), Friday, 10 July 2015 20:53 (ten years ago)

I was absorbing a lot of these records in waves over the next five years, so they hardly seem like they belong to the same time. I think Last Splash is the one that has stuck with me the most?

bentelec, Friday, 10 July 2015 22:57 (ten years ago)

which one gets played more consistently to this day, is how I'll play this - 'In On The Killtaker' it is ...

BlackIronPrison, Saturday, 11 July 2015 02:24 (ten years ago)

Also going to vote for Giant Steps here.

the future is now, Saturday, 11 July 2015 17:33 (ten years ago)

i thought this was one of the better 1990's year, i guess i was wrong.

Bee OK, Sunday, 12 July 2015 03:15 (ten years ago)

i really hope something like Suede gets a vote. it was really something in 1993.

Bee OK, Sunday, 12 July 2015 07:32 (ten years ago)

Voted Liz Phair, but a shoutout to Uncle Tupelo.

Lee626, Sunday, 12 July 2015 08:32 (ten years ago)

wow, great times!

So many..

so hard..

Oh, you know, really, don't you?

GS

Mark G, Sunday, 12 July 2015 09:28 (ten years ago)

I still like the record a hell of a lot in 2015, fwiw.

You’re being too simplistic and you’re insulting my poor heart (Turrican), Sunday, 12 July 2015 16:56 (ten years ago)

dubnobass and it's not even close.

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 12 July 2015 17:23 (ten years ago)

WTF are Counting Crows and Sarah McLachlan doing on this list???

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 12 July 2015 17:26 (ten years ago)

acclaimed albums of 1993

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 12 July 2015 17:27 (ten years ago)

one of my favorite years: transient random noise, painful and enter the 36 among my favorite 90s records.

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 12 July 2015 17:39 (ten years ago)

some other of my favorite records that should be on the list imo: 93' till infinity, so tonight that i might see, tiger trap, souvlaki.

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 12 July 2015 17:40 (ten years ago)

You'd think Souvlaki would be more acclaimed than Sarah McLachlan.

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 12 July 2015 17:47 (ten years ago)

37 2096 // Sheryl Crow Tuesday - Night Music Club
38 2166 // Grant Lee Buffalo - Fuzzy
39 2202 // Morphine - Cure for Pain
40 2379 // Slowdive - Souvlaki

wtf

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 12 July 2015 17:52 (ten years ago)

FUZZY 4LYFE

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 12 July 2015 17:58 (ten years ago)

Souvlaki not being on this list is a bad sign. Will Quique, DI Go Pop, Pygmalion, HEX etc not be on as well?

Frederik B, Sunday, 12 July 2015 18:41 (ten years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 13 July 2015 00:01 (ten years ago)

Went with Tindersticks but it could have easily been Very, Giant Steps or Suede. The biggest omission for me along with Slowdive is So Tough by Saint Etienne.

Kitchen Person, Monday, 13 July 2015 00:25 (ten years ago)

My most notable personal omissions:

Aimee Mann - Whatever (#34)
PM Dawn - The Bliss Album...? ("bubbling under")
Buffalo Tom - Big Red Letter Day ("bubbling under")
The Loud Family - Plants & Birds & Rocks & Things (not listed)

The New Gay Sadness (cryptosicko), Monday, 13 July 2015 00:51 (ten years ago)

I still like the record a hell of a lot in 2015, fwiw.

i was not saying that it sounds bad these days, not at all still one of my favorites. it was just with the competition i was not sure it would get any votes.

Bee OK, Monday, 13 July 2015 15:35 (ten years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 00:01 (ten years ago)

Wish I had voted for In on the Killtaker now

Modern French Music from Failure to Boulez (askance johnson), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 00:13 (ten years ago)

Can't argue too much with those results.

Something Called Fudge (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 00:40 (ten years ago)

Clan In Da Front >>>

paolo, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 07:48 (ten years ago)

Siamese Dream over Painful is some sort of insult.

Van Horn Street, Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:54 (ten years ago)

You hurt me. You hurt me in my heart.

Something Called Fudge (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:58 (ten years ago)

hahaha
