Because..

I've always loved the Flowchart one having bought it in NY (Mondo Kims), after finding a single in the Virgin Megastore which proved to be nothing like it but still. Anyway, thanks to Discogs I managed to get three others for not much, and wondered what gems lay in this series..

Lilys entry is a+

Οὖτις, Thursday, 6 August 2015 11:25 (nine years ago)

Ah good, that's one of the ones I just got.

Mark G, Thursday, 6 August 2015 11:30 (nine years ago)

It's them doing Neu mostly and is superb.

MaresNest, Thursday, 6 August 2015 11:31 (nine years ago)

That's what I heard about it, and why I was looking for it. Naturally, most copies were located in the US so I hesitated until I found some UK ones.

also:

oops, missed one:

Aarktica ...Or You Could Just Go Through Your Whole Life And Be Happy Anyway. (Bliss Out V. 18) ‎(CD, Album)

Mark G, Thursday, 6 August 2015 11:33 (nine years ago)

Actually, the first track is the most Neu like, the rest could be more influenced by Harmonia

MaresNest, Thursday, 6 August 2015 11:47 (nine years ago)

It looks like a "Best of Bliss Out" came out last month. I don't know if it's truth in advertising. It's on Spotify.

Piano Magic one is lovely, one of the best things they did.

Re: Best of - Well, how about that!

And the Spotify link, thanks for that!

Windy & Carl x10000000

sctttnnnt (pgwp), Thursday, 6 August 2015 16:15 (nine years ago)

It's been a while since I've heard any of the others but iirc the Tomorrowland, Transient Waves, and Piano Magic are all good too.

^^
's gorgeous, and works really well leading into the similarly unsettled nocturnal/aquatic vibes of Optimo's Sleepwalk mix.

Of the ones I've heard, probably the Lilys one, but the Windy & Carl and Flowchart are great too.

Of the ones I haven't, well, time to dive into that Spotify playlist. Thanks MaresNest!

Piano Magic one is fantastic, I'm a sucker for anything creepy nautical ambient, tho what else is in that category, maybe something by Rachel's. Anyway Antarctica is great too. The AmAnSet one I remember being pleasant enough but inessential.

orifex, Thursday, 6 August 2015 19:17 (nine years ago)

The Manual/Jess Kahr one is my favorite... listen to it all the time. As noted above, Windy + Carl, Piano Magic, and Flowchart are very good. And I personally really like the Cat's Miaow one... it's more Hydroplane sounding than most Cat's Miaow, which is perfect. I've got most of them... 1-14 and 20 and 21. Need to find that Mus one, heard it's quite nice.

erry red flag (f. hazel), Thursday, 6 August 2015 19:26 (nine years ago)

voting Piano Magic, mainly because my friend was on it; it's also the only one of these I still listen to on a regular basis.

akm, Thursday, 6 August 2015 19:56 (nine years ago)

Full disclosure time: the other two I got are
3) Orange Cake Mix
14) Technicolor

Mark G, Thursday, 6 August 2015 20:16 (nine years ago)

the orange cake mix one isn't bad!

erry red flag (f. hazel), Thursday, 6 August 2015 23:55 (nine years ago)

scratch that, there is no 21... 19 and 20 I meant.

erry red flag (f. hazel), Friday, 7 August 2015 15:53 (nine years ago)

Have spent my day listening to this Spotify playlist; made it through the first seven volumes so far. Of these early ones, Windy&Carl and Amp are the standouts. Flowchart and Tomorrowland and Orange Cake Mix and Fuxa are all also good. Mirza is the only one that hasn't aged quite so well - it's very Mogwai/Young Team. Reminds me of the Kranky band Magnog, who also mined this territory - epic guitar crescendos, not yet as orchestral as GYBE or Sigur Ros.
