so it's out today!

pretty good so far! def got that classic Xpensive Winos vibez.

so far best song is "Robbed Blind" a country rock ballad about some time a girl and her bf ripped Keith off for his drug stash

classic Keith: first song on the album is a country blues acoustic Robert Johnson style song and he doesn't bother to finish it he just stops and laughs and says "That's all i got"

He sounds much better vocally than I expected.

Talk is Cheap is so great, hard to believe that was like 25 years ago or w/e

I will always listen to a new Keith solo record but I will not return the favor to Mick

also I really like "Illusions" and did not exactly have high hopes for a Keith/Norah Jones duet

Really like this a lot! Go Keef!

I wanna hear this (no matter what Lefsetz says)

Totally lazy, totally forgettable. I tried to make it through yesterday, only survived 9 out of 15(!) tracks before giving up and putting on Tattoo You instead. There are a few moments where his voice slides down into a Leonard Cohen-esque register, which is mildly interesting. But a day later, I can't remember what a single one of the songs sounded like.

I listened to a few songs & really liked what I heard. It sounded like what he would play for himself just sitting around home & I think that's what I like most. I love Talk is Cheap so much but it sounds alot like Stones-minus-Mick... like that this sounded more "Keef"

Looking forward to running through the whole album

I'm with Phil. Some of these tracks sound unfinished. It reminded me that Richards' A Bigger Bang song were his weakest on any album.

If you go back and listen, you'll notice that there weren't any songs on Main Offender, either.

I loved Talk is Cheap at the time, and I still think it's the best Stones record since Some Girls. But the stuff I heard from Main Offender sounded pretty half-assed, and if this new one is even more half-assed, then I doubt I'll check it out.

i don't think i own any solo stones records. i like the solo bobby keys album if that counts. feel like they lose exactly 50% of their magic when they do anything on their own.

gonna watch that doc on netflix though. have to see if keith's guitar dude pierre is in it. he lives in town here and i always hope that keith will come visit greenfield someday.

I'm having the same reaction to news of this as I did when I found out that David Gilmour had a new album out. Just... *shrugs*... y'know?

Turrican, Sunday, 20 September 2015 21:07 (nine years ago)

Scott, you should really check out Talk is Cheap. Bootsy and Maceo are on one song! And he duets with Sarah Dash on another song (which has probably the best vocal of his career)!

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 20 September 2015 21:16 (nine years ago)

Main Offender has great tunes. "Eileen" and "Wicked as it Seems" are as good or better than anything on Talk is Cheap.

DavidLeeRoth, Sunday, 20 September 2015 22:47 (nine years ago)

Tattoo You and Dirty Work are fine post-Some Girls records, and there's plenty of good tunes after them. I don't need any of Keith's solo albums, pleasant as a few of the tunes are.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 20 September 2015 23:27 (nine years ago)

Love him or hate him, Jagger's the singer and concept guy. Keith's a singing guitarist.

stones have some really nice latter-day b-sides. when there were b-sides. like, 90's b-sides.

scott seward, Monday, 21 September 2015 00:25 (nine years ago)

The offhandedness of this one is a big part of its charm for me.

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Monday, 21 September 2015 06:06 (nine years ago)

tooting my own horn here but I consider this Spotify playlist I made the best document of late period Stones

(I actually went post-Tattoo You instead of post-Some Girls because I think Tattoo You is just a good record and also it has "Start Me Up" the last really iconic Stones song)
