this album has really stuck with me this year, so much sullen gothickness from a woman who calls herself the darkwave duchess, but also so much space and light in the electro/boogie beats, and it's a damn sight hookier than anyone else doing "alt r&b" has ever managed

"no chill" is probably my favourite!

i'm young & i'll waste you away-ay-ay

lex pretend, Friday, 9 October 2015 16:32 (nine years ago)

as hip as the production choices are, i love the two piano versions at the end as much as anything else

Haino Corrida (NickB), Friday, 9 October 2015 16:47 (nine years ago)

oh yeah, they're really inspired

it's all self-produced i think?

lex pretend, Friday, 9 October 2015 16:51 (nine years ago)

gotta confess, like with most other things, i've been exceptionally lazy about finding out about the background of it. i just like singing along in my head while i'm walking down the street

video for "fruit"

the way she shifts moods in this song is so good...the way it opens up with "don't listen to what they say..."

This is top ten 2015 for me.

Is it just me or is her voice the exact midpoint of Mutya and Keisha.

Tim F, Monday, 21 December 2015 09:35 (nine years ago)

interesting comparison...i hear it less in the timbre (abra has a higher voice and sounds younger than sugababes ever did) but she definitely shares the sugababes' casual shrug in her voice. i feel like abra conveys solitude a lot more easily than mutya or keisha could, their power was very much that of the girl gang

"vegas" & "crybaby" on the new EP are pretty awesome but it kinda tails off after that i think
