yea it is a weird pairing i don't see any clear, like, musical reasons for future wanting to pair up w/ drake

i like young thug more as an artist but future's having a better run so i vote future

oh for sure, none of these are even my favourite rap albums/tapes of 2k15, but they seem very comparable to each other

if this included Tha Tour Pt 1 it'd be Thug easy but as is, it's prob Future.

Going with Thug. His highs are higher this year.

Interesting b/c for all the similarities, they seem to be on divergent paths right now. Thug's output is so wide-ranging and expansive, while Future's narrowed his sound down to something powerful but monochromatic. I'd probably vote Thug based on his capacity to surprise.

Really to me it comes down to song construction, and future has made more classic songs in his recent run than thug, imo

People are still giving props to rappers for churning out a lot of material w/out considering that not every thug song (or future song for that matter) is worth their time and it might seem like it's elevating the artists but really it's grading them on a curve that ends up downplaying the great shit and overplaying the filler

personally, i need to marinate in this slime for a few more weeks before making the call

i love the pure texture of future's voice (prob top 5 human voice timbre of all time) but i like the things thug does with his voice more..?

xp yeah totally agree with that. Everything that comes out of Future's voice just naturally sounds good; you definitely can't say the same for Thug.

yea, agree w/ flopson, thug has some really astonishing highs but there are plenty of tracks where i just really don't like his voice, plenty of thugger tracks that are fucking annoying

At least I notice when I hear one of his tracks tho, March Madness aside everything I've heard from Future might as well've been white noise

Agree with this. I didn't think Future had an album like DS2 in him anymore.

both artists are better than they've ever been for me - i was very surprised that i fell as hard for future's output as i have this year, harder than i ever did before (i went back to the pre-DS2 mixtapes and they're all amazing), and i was very surprised that i finally clicked with thug with the slime seasons and "pacifier" having previously found him pretty unlistenable

i wouldn't say i'm enraptured with the timbre of either's voice but something about the production choices and songwriting frames them better for me now

fyi you were also wrong about chief keef, who's had an alright year if not as strong as his 2014 in my eyes

future's been more consistent but i love barter 6 the most out of all the tapes. so uh thug

i don't think i was wrong, i just like the new stuff more than the old stuff

on the subject of chicago rappers i can't believe no one's repping harder for nutty world 2, fire from start to finish

lex there are some really good future tracks on it that are very much in the same vein as the rest of his work from this year, drake isn't even on every song

after many tries (1017 Thug, Black Portland, Tha Tour Pt. 1 and mostly lagoon's Straye Thugs comp), i still don't "get" YT. i just can't get motivated to bother w/ Barter or the Slimes

too bad dude barter & both slimes are way better than than the older mixtapes though i guess if you can't find something to love in those than there's no use in trying the newer stuff

normally I feel that way but this mixtape takes it to such excess that it becomes elevated, and the future-styled autotuned vocals give it a bittersweet undertone.

it's kinda funny i feel like future has such a blank affect that people project so much sorrow and all this existential stuff onto a guy that mostly just raps about expensive shit and doing drugs and having sex
