Bee OK, Thursday, 5 November 2015 02:21 (ten years ago)

hello ILM, i'm finally back. i had my first adult health scare (nothing major) so it took me off the grid for a bit and then i just took an extended break. just regret that i missed the World Series thread this year but the right team won. anyways, it's great to be back and of course i had to continue this series.

Bee OK, Thursday, 5 November 2015 02:23 (ten years ago)

Can't choose between Soon and Only Love Can Break Your Heart.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 5 November 2015 02:24 (ten years ago)

Glad to hear you be okay, Bee OK.

Lots of good/great stuff here, but this is absolutely positively the Sundays.

Trimming The Hegyes: The Life & Times Of A Sweathog's Barber (Old Lunch), Thursday, 5 November 2015 03:12 (ten years ago)

justify my love

flappy bird, Thursday, 5 November 2015 03:28 (ten years ago)

It's not that often that I vote for the Pixies in a poll but they take this one, just over Depeche Mode and MBV.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 5 November 2015 03:45 (ten years ago)

This is absolutely positively impossible.

"Groove is in the Heart"
"Loaded"
"Birdhouse"
Sundays

all all-time for me. And I outright love "This is How It Feels" and will surely never get a chance to vote for it again -- but how can I, against this competition?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 5 November 2015 04:39 (ten years ago)

Lots of contenders, especially on the dance side of things.

"Crazy"
"Groove is in the Heart"
"Freedom '90"
"The Humpty Dance"
and more.

my harp and me (Eazy), Thursday, 5 November 2015 05:26 (ten years ago)

Good to hear you're OK

Probably voting "Vogue" since it got shut out of the Mads poll top 5.

thread of getting sw0le and lena jokes (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 November 2015 15:08 (ten years ago)

I would really like to vote for The Humpty Dance or Momma Said Knock You Out, but I'm pretty sure Welcome to the Terrordome is the best song ever.

Modern French Music from Failure to Boulez (askance johnson), Thursday, 5 November 2015 15:08 (ten years ago)

but I'm pretty sure Welcome to the Terrordome is the best song ever.

otm. it's getting my vote. I still don't know what the main sound is...like a fire truck's horn or something? This song never fails to blow me away.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 5 November 2015 15:17 (ten years ago)

And welcome back, Bee OK! I hope you will continue to be ok!

Soon.

Marty8501 (Marty Innerlogic), Thursday, 5 November 2015 15:20 (ten years ago)

Great year, I love the early 90s. Was going to go for Enjoy the Silence till I scrolled down and saw Killer.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Thursday, 5 November 2015 15:24 (ten years ago)

Spotify playlist (minus Sinead and Primal Scream)

Fetty Wap Is Strong In Here (cryptosicko), Thursday, 5 November 2015 15:30 (ten years ago)

Either 1990 was not a very good year or the stuff I liked from that period was not acclaimed. Voted Saint Etienne.

daavid, Thursday, 5 November 2015 17:00 (ten years ago)

'Enjoy The Silence'

Obviously.

Turrican, Thursday, 5 November 2015 18:12 (ten years ago)

Oh, thanks for the link cryptosicko.

Bee OK, Thursday, 5 November 2015 20:04 (ten years ago)

I wanted to listen before voting and now i will but think I will agree with Old Lunch

Bee OK, Thursday, 5 November 2015 20:06 (ten years ago)

I can see why not Snead (the whole Prince thing) but why not Primal Screamer on Spotify?they are on Sony

Bee OK, Thursday, 5 November 2015 21:22 (ten years ago)

Stupid auto correct

Bee OK, Thursday, 5 November 2015 21:23 (ten years ago)

I have to vote Birdhouse based on total length of time it's looped through my head

frogbs, Thursday, 5 November 2015 21:30 (ten years ago)

Orb, Saint etienne, can I kick it, seal, energy flash... This is hard

brimstead, Thursday, 5 November 2015 21:38 (ten years ago)

I have to vote Birdhouse based on total length of time it's looped through my head

Exact reason I voted for Deee-Lite

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 6 November 2015 06:04 (ten years ago)

Voted for Ladies Love Cool James because it's that song is one of the greatest things ever.

billstevejim, Friday, 6 November 2015 06:45 (ten years ago)

it's that it's is that is its

billstevejim, Friday, 6 November 2015 06:46 (ten years ago)

Voting "Step On" to give it some love, the correct answer is probably "Groove Is in the Heart."

the future is now, Friday, 6 November 2015 15:03 (ten years ago)

You're twistin' my melon man, you know you talk so hip man. You're twistin' my melon man. ... " haha, love that son5

Bee OK, Friday, 6 November 2015 19:16 (ten years ago)

My roughly ordered top 10:

Digital Underground - The Humpty Dance
Madonna - Vogue
Sinéad O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
The Sundays - Here's Where the Story Ends
Madonna - Justify My Love
Sonic Youth - Kool Thing
My Bloody Valentine - Soon
Pet Shop Boys - Being Boring
Public Enemy - 911 Is a Joke
A Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It?

Yeah, sorry, "Groove is in the Heart," "Freedom 90," " Enjoy the Silence," "Crazy" and the vast majority of the Britpop here do nothing for me.

Fetty Wap Is Strong In Here (cryptosicko), Friday, 6 November 2015 20:44 (ten years ago)

Eh? Which songs here are Britpop!?

Turrican, Friday, 6 November 2015 21:02 (ten years ago)

surprised you prefer "Being Boring" to "Enjoy the Silence" and "Groove is in the Heart."

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 6 November 2015 21:02 (ten years ago)

I think he meant in a general sense

Bonita (bonita)

thom yorke state of mind (voodoo chili), Friday, 6 November 2015 21:06 (ten years ago)

Yeah, was referring to the era's Primal Scream/Happy Mondays/Charlatans wave.

Have rarely cared for Depeche Mode in general. As for "Groove"--eh, just heard it too many times I guess (though I could say the same about "Vogue" yet I still dig it, so idk).

Fetty Wap Is Strong In Here (cryptosicko), Friday, 6 November 2015 21:11 (ten years ago)

In general Deee-Lite don't do a lot for me, but "Groove" is immortal, et al.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b8/The_gout_james_gillray.jpg

it, the monster that it is, woke me up in the middle of the night. took ibuprofen and was able to go back to sleep. went to work the next day but only could walk on the outside of my foot. everyone at work was trying to get me to go to Urgent Care but i refused. next day it seemed to get better but that night my foot started to swell. it was not in my toe, like most first time gout attacks happen, but was in the middle inside of my foot. anyways by that night i was having issues walking where i thought i needed to do something but slept on it. when i tried to get up, because my foot was level with my body from sleeping i could not put it down to the ground. anyways had to borrow a wheelchair as i could not walk. went to the ER for about 8 hours and found out i had gout. i never what to go through that pain again, it is very much like the picture above "the Gout" as it felt like a demon was sucking on my foot. so i'm changing my lifestyle and hope to never go through that pain again.

Bee OK, Saturday, 7 November 2015 02:53 (ten years ago)

some of that got cut off...

i shared that something happened to me so i decided to share my experience here in this thread.

lol "rich man's disease."

Bee OK, Saturday, 7 November 2015 02:57 (ten years ago)

i didn't know that picture was in the other thread as i posted in this one first. then decided to see if there was a thread on it.

Bee OK, Saturday, 7 November 2015 04:29 (ten years ago)

For perspective, here were Billboard's Top 100 singles for that year:

System, Monday, 9 November 2015 00:01 (ten years ago)

Loving this Spotify list, thanks cryptosicko!

I assumed the UK hits on here would be songs I'd heard but didn't know the names of. But no -- both Happy Mondays and the Orb 100% unfamiliar to me.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 9 November 2015 02:36 (ten years ago)

went with original choice and picked "Here's Where the Story Ends."

I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Monday, 9 November 2015 15:12 (ten years ago)

1990 was a pretty fantastic year but only a fraction of my most favorite 1990 songs are in this list.

Trimming The Hegyes: The Life & Times Of A Sweathog's Barber (Old Lunch), Monday, 9 November 2015 15:32 (ten years ago)

DJP's list OTM

so many great songs here and the only song I actively dislike on the list is "This Is How It Feels"

(I actually don't know this one Soda Stereo - De música ligera so I'm going to check it out but I like the name, so it's automatically better than the Inspiral Carpets)

a passing spacecadet, Monday, 9 November 2015 19:55 (ten years ago)

came to vote for Vogue, stayed for hot demon toe sucking

Leonard Pine, Monday, 9 November 2015 19:59 (ten years ago)

I got it down to 5
8 721 The Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds

17 1333 They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse in Your Soul
25 1685 Joey Beltram - Energy Flash
32 2431 Adamski - Killer

and now it's time to vote for one pretty much randomly. Hope none of these get 0

"Everybody Everybody," jesus, 1990 was fucking unstoppable

Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 10 November 2015 16:22 (ten years ago)

Black Box has been unfairly saddled with the taint of Jock Jam-dom. That whole album is solid.

Trimming The Hegyes: The Life & Times Of A Sweathog's Barber (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 10 November 2015 19:40 (ten years ago)

You say that as if it's a bad thing.
