Creation Singles Poll, Part Two - 1986 to 1987

I love the Velvets-y chug of "Alsmot Prayed"

Heard it All, Almost Prayed, Ballad of the Band, I Will Die With My Head in Flames (b side to Rain of Crystal Spires), Murderers the Hope of Women - these are some of my favourite songs of all time. This was a great time for this kind of thing.

Therese, and I don't like too many other songs much more than I like that.

Shine On is great too obv, but my House of Love vote would probably go to Christine.

Therese is also great, and there are quite a few others here. Can't remember the Clive Langer track. Haven't listened to the Nikki Sudden stuff in a long time but there's a couple of great ones I think. He was awesome imo.

But how blokey is this list? Obviously this reflects the Creation roster over the years but this selection is particularly heavy on the male singer/songwriter with a flash guitarist and two or three other dudes in black drainpipes and DMs. Other than Heidi Berry (who apparently had a troubled relationship with the label, and whose band was made up of guys from Primal Scream etc) the only women are Baby Amphetamine, basically a joke against women performers, doing a song written by Alan McGee I think.

Momus and Bill Drummond seem refreshingly irregular to all that.

I wanted to vote for "Love's Going Out of Fashion", but in the end, it had to be Bill Drummond. I don't think I've ever laughed harder at any song than "I'm the King of Joy".

Couldn't see past the Felt stuff here to begin with, but in all honesty "Almost Prayed" is the one I have played most over the years, and is running through my head right now (and sounding pretty fine), so that

"Shine On" is one that i remember but i thought it was a newer song?

i basically like every song here, though. i've probably listened to, and enjoyed, basically anything that even went near Creation/Alan McGee [...] until Oasis came along.
These damn songs are my damn childhood, sort of. Except I'm 29 now and live on the wrong side of the planet and wasn't actually there at the time... but, still.

I've a soft spot for quite a few of these. I'd almost forgotten "Cold Heart". Really dug it just now. Vote goes to Momus though.

This great song was never properly recorded, imo

"Ballad of the Band" prob. the best single Creation ever released. If only it had come out in the early days, with the wraparound sleeve and the little plastic bag.

It's good to see "King of Joy" high in the running. I know, I know, he was a star. However, I just fear that people don't know about that song, sometimes.

It's also pretty lame that "Shine On" one. Yeah, a very wonderful song, but there's so much other great stuff here. Felt, Biff Bang Pow!, etc.
