RFD & S/D: Which genres are female-dominated?

Because their must be at least some...?
(Please forgive me if anything like this question has been asked before -- It's hard to search this.)

Besides Girl Group* and Riot Grrrl, I'm at a loss.

All else that I can come up with is Ethereal Darkwave, Twee Pop, and "Diva" House, BUT, those genres just have female singers, while it always still feels like there's more men behind the scenes providing instrumentation/production/etc.

*Men played a large role 'behind the scenes' here too, obviously. But, at least, sometimes you'd still have three or four women on stage with microphones.

jesus christ, i meant "there" instead of "their" in the first line of my first post. sometimes i post too fast and don't double-check/texting has ruined my grammar.

x-post: what is that and what does it MEAN?

Most Japanese music is weighted towards women.

I wonder how that's related to Japan's insane levels of sexism

this thread could easily become a clusterfuck very quickly. i'm fine with that. the more discussion, the better!

i think it's easy to agree that the "music industry" is pretty male-dominated... i'd like this idea to be proven false, somehow...

i suppose it would be important to "define our terms" here, and "unpack" a few things (forgive me, but i genuinely didn't know how else to say that).

what does it really mean for a genre to be female-dominated, though?
- what if certain genres typically have mostly female singers/musicians
-- what if those singers/musicians are mostly produced by, and represented by, men (consider white male privilege here), though
--- how do male feminist allies play into all of this?

*note: bleurgh. as a white male, i guess i should define my views of feminism. i am not a feminist. i am a feminist-ally. male feminism has nothing to do with speaking for women or advocating for their needs and rights. male feminism is about HELPING to create a space in which women can do that for themselves.
