roughest.contoured.silks (imago), Saturday, 12 December 2015 22:31 (ten years ago)

Drugs A. Money, Saturday, 12 December 2015 23:55 (ten years ago)

cher guevara (lex pretend), Sunday, 13 December 2015 10:16 (ten years ago)

something totally new, it’s the AOR of the twenty first century (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 13 December 2015 12:43 (ten years ago)

The Deep

(most played and she killed it live to boot)

Jeff W, Sunday, 13 December 2015 19:06 (ten years ago)

kinda want to throw a vote to "projection"

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Sunday, 13 December 2015 19:11 (ten years ago)

when she played it at the listening party in january i was like "this song doesn't make any sense to me" and tbh i still sorta feel that way and it's awesome

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Sunday, 13 December 2015 19:12 (ten years ago)

The whole stretch from Swim Free -> Castles is flawless.

Matt DC, Sunday, 13 December 2015 21:39 (ten years ago)

She would do a killer cover of Madonna's "Swim."

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 13 December 2015 21:46 (ten years ago)

I think of Dawn as more of a "Power of Goodbye" kinda chick.

Tim F, Monday, 14 December 2015 05:18 (ten years ago)

Swim Free >>> Adderall/Sold but damn, this album. I could easily vote for half a dozen songs. Projection, Warriors, Phoenix, Choices...

ARGH.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Tuesday, 15 December 2015 00:01 (ten years ago)

What kind of monster sets a FOUR DAY timespan on a poll this difficult? Ugh.

Toot Your Hütter On Pollution Now! (Branwell with an N), Tuesday, 15 December 2015 08:23 (ten years ago)

Feel like, if Dawn records have one big flaw, it's usually pacing, and I really wish she'd done something to vary the early run of maximalist mid-paced stodge at the start. From Blow through to the moment when Adderall/Slow explodes into life feels is a bit of a slog for me. Blow feels like it's at least a third too slow, especially coming after Calypso.

It's near faultless after that, obviously.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 December 2015 09:44 (ten years ago)

"blow" through to "adderall/sold" is the most exciting stretch of the record for me, there's so much going on and so many switch-ups

cher guevara (lex pretend), Tuesday, 15 December 2015 10:07 (ten years ago)

"adderall/sold" really crystallises all of that in one song - that's the stretch where you feel right at the top of your head, before she lets you exhale in the second half

cher guevara (lex pretend), Tuesday, 15 December 2015 10:07 (ten years ago)

That kinda makes sense seeing as you love Goldenheart and I really don't.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 December 2015 10:13 (ten years ago)

Maybe I just don't like her lower register very much, especially when effects-laden.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 December 2015 10:14 (ten years ago)

Adderall / Sold - well, specifically Sold is p much the only track on this album that has never gelled with me. Love the beginning, but then when it goes all jackhammer it just utterly destroys the tension and promise it delivered in the first half.

Toot Your Hütter On Pollution Now! (Branwell with an N), Tuesday, 15 December 2015 10:34 (ten years ago)

This is mental imo; Armor On might be one of the most well paced albums* Ive ever heard

(Yeah I kniw its an EP but theres enough material on there to justify an album fir many other artists)

how much longer for italo-disco Robbie Basho? (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 15 December 2015 11:07 (ten years ago)

Armor On is the exception, yeah, she got it bang on there.

no votes for "Projection" or "Billie Jean" smh

boring alt-reality reverend (The Reverend), Wednesday, 16 December 2015 00:12 (ten years ago)

I didn't vote in the end

is it possible to vote for an entire album? i guess it's the EOY poll soon

roughest.contoured.silks (imago), Wednesday, 16 December 2015 00:13 (ten years ago)

Feeling this re: "Phoenix":

etc, Wednesday, 16 December 2015 06:06 (ten years ago)

my favorite parts of this album are the minimalist ballads and also the parts that sound like drexciya

boring alt-reality reverend (The Reverend), Wednesday, 16 December 2015 09:18 (ten years ago)

I meant Castles not Titans duh. Both that and Warriors do a p great job of summing up everything shes ever done right (and also make Phoenix seem VERY extraneous)

some doof (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 24 December 2015 19:50 (ten years ago)

Yeah, I shouldve voted for "Castles". That song is super-dope

ho ho ho, very funny (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 25 December 2015 10:18 (ten years ago)

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 4 May 2018 15:03 (seven years ago)

chorus is deeply homogenic-core
