given that the elle king song is the only one that reminds me of quixotic, she wins

maura, Wednesday, 16 December 2015 19:41 (nine years ago)

hoo boy

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 16 December 2015 19:42 (nine years ago)

Just read that "Stressed Out" is nearly set to top the number of weekly spins in the history of the chart.

LimbsKing, Wednesday, 16 December 2015 19:43 (nine years ago)

uh yeah elle king is prob the only song i like here

I voted "Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)"... real earworm. Elle King would've been A close second

LimbsKing, Wednesday, 16 December 2015 19:52 (nine years ago)

here is my more cherrypicked selection of this year's modern rock hits:

Shkreli, Martin & Wu (some dude), Wednesday, 16 December 2015 21:07 (nine years ago)

nothing to vote for here. modest mouse is the only band i can stomach but "Lampshades on Fire" sucks

flappy bird, Wednesday, 16 December 2015 22:25 (nine years ago)

some dude is OTM, "Shut Up and Dance" over "Ex's & Oh's," and "Dead Inside"

Bee OK, Thursday, 17 December 2015 02:03 (nine years ago)

"Something from Nothing" has a little "Trampled Under Foot" keyboard funk to it

LimbsKing, Thursday, 17 December 2015 04:14 (nine years ago)

it's wild that Cold War Kids stuck out being a middle-of-the-pack blog rock band like 9-10 years ago and kept chipping away at radio with a half dozen minor hits before they just came out of nowhere with a #1 song. as a song it's okay, i guess, but what an unexpected career turn.

Shkreli, Martin & Wu (some dude), Thursday, 17 December 2015 04:48 (nine years ago)

god I hate "shut up and dance"

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Thursday, 17 December 2015 06:49 (nine years ago)

Just read that "Stressed Out" is nearly set to top the number of weekly spins in the history of the chart.

i have no idea whether audience numbers for alt rock stations are decent these days so idk if that means much. new spin records are bound to be broken (by songs that are big regardless, ofc) as playlists continue to tighten, which i believe is true on virtually all radio formats

dyl, Thursday, 17 December 2015 08:08 (nine years ago)

I'm so fucking embarrassed to be a rock fan.

Adam J Duncan, Thursday, 17 December 2015 11:01 (nine years ago)

Hmmmm, Maura and Brad like Elle King - "Ex's & Oh's" while Some Dude thinks its one of the worst cuts of the year. I haven't heard it yet.

curmudgeon, Thursday, 17 December 2015 16:30 (nine years ago)

i never liked quixotic either, there were a couple years that they were always opening for bands i liked and i just couldn't warm to em

Shkreli, Martin & Wu (some dude), Thursday, 17 December 2015 16:51 (nine years ago)

i think 'shut up and dance' is the only thing on here i know and it's Bad

ciderpress, Thursday, 17 December 2015 17:09 (nine years ago)

I am still pissed at "Shut Up and Dance" for not being related to Shut Up and Dance

I am a big fan of this Cage the Elephant song. So not what I pictured for them after "Ain't No Rest of the Wicked" et al

LimbsKing, Thursday, 17 December 2015 21:37 (nine years ago)

There were several dozen rock singles this year that actually didn't suck. Big surprise: None of them charted.

billstevejim, Friday, 18 December 2015 00:43 (nine years ago)

would take the gin blossoms over any of this shit

hackshaw, Friday, 18 December 2015 01:10 (nine years ago)

Yup

Meh, I dont know anything on here either; the local modern rock station round here ended up changing formats (to classic country of all things) probably around March??? Kind of bummed that Kongos' "I Want to Know" didn't reach the top, as that ended up being a big boneheaded guilty pleasure of mine...

I'd bet I probably wouldn't hate the Modest Mouse, AWOLNation, and Cage the Elephant songs

Kongos did have one #1 and another good-sized US hit but i never heard "I Want To Know"

WHO KILLED ROCK RADIO?
Modern Rock radio once offered serious music fans refuge from the one-hit wonders, mind-numbing repetitions, and classic schlock of Top 40. Today, the format is as bland and predictable as a Third Eye Blind single. Keith Moerer plows through the rubble of the modern-rock revolution.
