Tied with 2005 for fewest #1s in a single year?

jaymc, Wednesday, 16 December 2015 23:59 (nine years ago)

better batch than last year I guess. I'd rank them:

Uptown Funk
Cheerleader
The Hills
What Do You Mean
Can't Feel My Face
Bad Blood
Hello
See You Again

boring alt-reality reverend (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 December 2015 00:00 (nine years ago)

2002 had less songs reach #1 for the first time that year (which is the standard I use for these polls)

boring alt-reality reverend (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 December 2015 00:02 (nine years ago)

The Weeknd, "The Hills"
Mark Ronson f/ Bruno Mars, "Uptown Funk"
The Weeknd, "Can't Feel My Face"
Adele, "Hello"
Wiz Khalifa f/ Charlie Puth, "See You Again"
OMI, "Cheerleader"
Taylor Swift f/ Kendrick Lamar, "Bad Blood"
Justin Bieber, "What Do You Mean"

you're breaking the NAP (DJP), Thursday, 17 December 2015 00:03 (nine years ago)

"what do you mean" by a lot

"see you again" probably one of the worst songs i've ever heard

k3vin k., Thursday, 17 December 2015 00:14 (nine years ago)

cheerleader > can't feel > uptown > hello > the hills > what do u mean > bad blood > see you again

weak year for #1s. i've done a EOY singles list every year since 2003, and this is the first year i've had no Hot 100 #1 in my top 10.

Shkreli, Martin & Wu (some dude), Thursday, 17 December 2015 00:42 (nine years ago)

i'll suck your ween

flappy bird, Thursday, 17 December 2015 00:59 (nine years ago)

Listening to Wiz Khalifa f/ Charlie Puth, "See You Again" is like being eaten by dung beetles.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 17 December 2015 01:05 (nine years ago)

Uptown Funk feels like 2013 by now, so much airplay

Sharkie, Thursday, 17 December 2015 02:00 (nine years ago)

"Can't Feel My Face" over "Cheerleader" and "What Do You Mean"

Bee OK, Thursday, 17 December 2015 02:00 (nine years ago)

Bieber, because I know I voted for "Uptown Funk" the last time we did one of these things.

Fetty Wap Is Strong In Here (cryptosicko), Thursday, 17 December 2015 02:02 (nine years ago)

nope, it hadn't hit #1 at the end of last year

boring alt-reality reverend (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 December 2015 02:15 (nine years ago)

Yeah, I remember it starting to boil the week before the new year.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 17 December 2015 02:18 (nine years ago)

voted bad blood remix but on different days could easily have voted cheerleader hello or uptown funk

james brooks, Thursday, 17 December 2015 02:29 (nine years ago)

hills

johnny crunch, Thursday, 17 December 2015 03:09 (nine years ago)

call all destroyer, Thursday, 17 December 2015 03:47 (nine years ago)

Uptown Funk by a mile

LimbsKing, Thursday, 17 December 2015 04:15 (nine years ago)

The Hills
Uptown Funk
Can't Feel My Face
What Do You Mean
Cheerleader
Bad Blood
Hello
See You Again

bunny slopes, Thursday, 17 December 2015 04:23 (nine years ago)

The Hills is the pits, I tell ya. Worst song on the list.

I'll go with the Biebz.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Thursday, 17 December 2015 07:25 (nine years ago)

it's dreadful in its way but it also works. meh.

boring alt-reality reverend (The Reverend), Thursday, 17 December 2015 07:33 (nine years ago)

Friend zone apologists!

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Thursday, 17 December 2015 07:36 (nine years ago)

"the hills" is awful and I can't imagine enjoying it

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Thursday, 17 December 2015 07:48 (nine years ago)

"Uptown Funk" rest are garb

Nah but some are at least, seeee uuuuaGAIN especially

nova, Thursday, 17 December 2015 07:58 (nine years ago)

Idc about "friendzone" usage but "The Hills" is lame haunted-house shit

nova, Thursday, 17 December 2015 07:59 (nine years ago)

i was watching the american music awards and was kind of intrigued by how the blaring/droney synth at the beginning of "the hills" got all the girls in the audience screaming wildly, both during weeknd's own performance and when it was incorporated into j.lo's random dance medley at the beginning. tbh the song goes downhill from there so girls in audience otm i guess

dyl, Thursday, 17 December 2015 08:03 (nine years ago)

charlie puth is the worst on "see you again" he sounds like a disney prince who whimpers during orgasm

dyl, Thursday, 17 December 2015 08:03 (nine years ago)

anyway i voted for "uptown funk" which i am mostly tired of but which is still better than the lackluster remainder

dyl, Thursday, 17 December 2015 08:04 (nine years ago)

oooooof this list is even worse than last year. last year was "trash, plus a decent taylor swift single" iirc; this year is "trash, including one of the worst singles of taylor swift's career"

i haven't heard the wiz khalifa song! maybe when it's not 8.30am and i've just woken up. unless it's miraculously adequate, i'll probably go with omi.

cher guevara (lex pretend), Thursday, 17 December 2015 08:40 (nine years ago)

Cheerleader. I dont think Ive geard Hills but What Do You Mean >>>>> both Uptown Funk & Cant Feel My Face

how much longer for italo-disco Robbie Basho? (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 17 December 2015 08:45 (nine years ago)

the concept of the "friend zone" is such a reprehensible one, it's based on the idea that to be friends with someone you're into is the worst of all possible outcomes?

also completely socially oblivious, a substantial majority of the long-term hetero relationships among my friends emerged out of long-term friendships. being friends with people is a good thing!

cher guevara (lex pretend), Thursday, 17 December 2015 08:51 (nine years ago)

just listened to the hills for the first time on my iphone & had to google the lyrics because I thought the chorus began "I only fuck you when it's half mast"

miss me belial (crüt), Thursday, 17 December 2015 14:06 (nine years ago)

I spent most of my teenage years listening to bleak goth and industrial music; having "The Hills" not only be #1 but having it stay there for multiple weeks and be more successful than the peppier-sounding "Can't Feel My Face" is the closest I'm ever going to get to seeing Skinny Puppy or My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult have runaway mainstream success.

you're breaking the NAP (DJP), Thursday, 17 December 2015 14:23 (nine years ago)

I like the song anyway but there was something partic poignant and relevant to ~modern lyfe~ imo that he uses the hills as the closer to his fall tour, complete w/ lights and pyrotechnics keyed to the 'when im fucked up that's the real me' line idk

johnny crunch, Thursday, 17 December 2015 14:29 (nine years ago)

I am 100% behind saying the sentiments behind "The Hills" are ugly, regressive and not to be emulated. I am also 100% down with enjoying the creepy nihilism, particularly as his behavior becomes more self-destructive in the second verse.

you're breaking the NAP (DJP), Thursday, 17 December 2015 14:44 (nine years ago)

btw rev did you start these bc it's not worth waiting or bc it's obvious that the current #1 won't be dislodged? there are still two uk charts to go i think

cher guevara (lex pretend), Friday, 18 December 2015 12:09 (nine years ago)

Like It a Lot: "What Do You Mean"

Like: "Can't Feel My Face," "The Hills," "Hello"

Had to Remind Myself What This Was (i.e., okay: "See You Again")

Don't Recognize This at All: "Cheerleader"

Despise: "Uptown Funk," "Bad Blood"

clemenza, Friday, 18 December 2015 12:31 (nine years ago)

billboard post-dates its charts to be in line w/ its issue dates so the last chart dated 2015 has come out already xp

dyl, Friday, 18 December 2015 16:47 (nine years ago)

i also like "What Do You Mean" but "Uptown Funk" feels like the winner here

boring alt-reality reverend (The Reverend), Saturday, 19 December 2015 01:51 (nine years ago)

it's not like anything but "Hello" is gonna be #1 for at least another month anyway

thomp etty (some dude), Saturday, 19 December 2015 01:56 (nine years ago)

"Cheerleader" is horrible

has to be "Funk" or Bieber

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Saturday, 19 December 2015 02:05 (nine years ago)

still have not actually heard "Hello" or "See You Again" tho

the naive cockney chorus (Simon H.), Saturday, 19 December 2015 02:05 (nine years ago)

uptown funk

maura, Saturday, 19 December 2015 18:36 (nine years ago)

good #1s this year, "see you again" aside. i'm not partic fond of "bad blood" or "the hills" but recognize game. hard to choose between "cheerleader" "can't feel my face" "uptown funk" or biebs... prob "face" for me, the chorus still thrills me

flopson, Saturday, 19 December 2015 19:02 (nine years ago)

xxp I feel like I get asked that by a Brit every year.

boring alt-reality reverend (The Reverend), Saturday, 19 December 2015 23:20 (nine years ago)

I listened to The Hills; I had heard it before but hadn't realized this was THAT song. It's better than Face--really no surprise that it did even better on the charts imo--but I cant really fuck with that either. Go Omi!

"See You Again" is prob not the worst song I've ever heard

how much longer for italo-disco Robbie Basho? (Drugs A. Money), Sunday, 20 December 2015 08:38 (nine years ago)

Maybe see you again can't really be appreciated in isolation, but alongside the rip video and fan community it works nice - also that "how can we not talk abt family when family is all that we got" is sympathetic to my ears, it's like a song by brutes explaining why they're so emotional

niels, Sunday, 20 December 2015 08:47 (nine years ago)

felix jaehn remix?

hot doug stamper (||||||||), Sunday, 20 December 2015 10:27 (nine years ago)

The ever-brutish Wiz Khalifa

you're breaking the NAP (DJP), Sunday, 20 December 2015 13:58 (nine years ago)

lol, yeah "see you again" was 100% baffling to me until i realized most dudes associated it with fast & furious/dead paul walker. it is still terrible, though.

horrified fyi

cher guevara (lex pretend), Wednesday, 30 December 2015 07:32 (nine years ago)

More horrifying was that Sevyn Streeter did a really good song for the Furious 7 OST…

"Cheerleader" in a walk in this poll.

Jeff W, Wednesday, 30 December 2015 12:52 (nine years ago)

until i realized most dudes associated it with fast & furious/dead paul walker

ok this kind of makes me if not actually like it at least have a good lol when reminded of it

johnny crunch, Thursday, 31 December 2015 00:30 (nine years ago)

great results

k3vin k., Thursday, 31 December 2015 00:33 (nine years ago)

given the historic juggernaut popularity of both taylor and kendrick here, it says a lot about "bad blood" that it did so badly even with no overwhelming competition. very deserved.

cher guevara (lex pretend), Thursday, 31 December 2015 07:32 (nine years ago)

One day all of you are going to look back at these terrible Bieber songs and be hideously embarrassed.

Dan, don't you love that Major Lazer song that's exactly the same thing except worse?

no... please no... not my posterity... anything but that

r|t|c, Saturday, 2 January 2016 04:56 (nine years ago)

not sure this list is obviously holistically worse than previous years', but this one has no songs that i would listen to on purpose

een, Saturday, 2 January 2016 06:56 (nine years ago)

Idk Im pretty pleased with my Omi vote, the way he twists the melody around thise internal rhymes and uneven cadences thr same way a young girl will twist her hair around her finger
