cher guevara (lex pretend), Friday, 25 December 2015 16:53 (nine years ago)

MERRY XXXXMAS

he's almost forgiven bc he repped the NHS

cher guevara (lex pretend), Friday, 25 December 2015 17:02 (nine years ago)

torn between derulo and years & years

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 25 December 2015 17:02 (nine years ago)

"fight song" went #1 somewhere? O.o

dyl, Saturday, 26 December 2015 07:03 (nine years ago)

🤔

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 26 December 2015 08:34 (nine years ago)

maybe not my favest song ever ever but for this specific poll i think i should like to go for 'rumble'. gold standard industry tradecraft every step of its way, good job uk

r|t|c, Saturday, 26 December 2015 09:24 (nine years ago)

plus for a textbook quick-bung-a-vocal-on-it number it achieves the rare feat of being foxily meta self-deprecating about it too (from tinie's "so right so fresh top five no less" to katy going ham on "something just ain't right, why did i let you in, and let the this all begin, i wish i could forget, the day that we first met, and now it's blowing up, still i can't get enough!!")

Black Magic

billstevejim, Saturday, 26 December 2015 17:14 (nine years ago)

Rumble is great - sadly though no 12", no CD-single, only mp3 or NOW 92... every other weak-ass indie rock crap gets a vinyl press while a booming club cut like this

Paul, Sunday, 27 December 2015 04:19 (nine years ago)

don't be so hard on yourself was a personal anthem this year

also the only reason love me like you do is not the worst song of 2015 is the existence of charlie puth and meghan trainor (separately and together)

maura, Sunday, 27 December 2015 05:20 (nine years ago)

Voted for Derulo. The Years & Years single is my least favorite on that album.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 31 December 2015 13:31 (nine years ago)

i forgot that people liked that annoying derulo song

cher guevara (lex pretend), Thursday, 31 December 2015 13:34 (nine years ago)

it is terrible

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 31 December 2015 13:47 (nine years ago)

thirded, shit is wack

r|t|c, Thursday, 31 December 2015 14:34 (nine years ago)

idk man in a year dominated by abel and aubrey a 'heart of glass'-biting track about a dude being excited to be with a woman is pretty refreshing

maura, Thursday, 31 December 2015 15:44 (nine years ago)

voted derulo, gtfo y'all

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 December 2015 19:25 (nine years ago)

I can't believe Bieber singles are the ones I like the most out of these.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 31 December 2015 19:28 (nine years ago)

the only acceptable answer on this poll is little mix

a self-reinforcing downward spiral of male-centric indie (katherine), Thursday, 31 December 2015 19:32 (nine years ago)

idk man in a year dominated by abel and aubrey a 'heart of glass'-biting track about a dude being excited to be with a woman is pretty refreshing

it's better than them, i'll give it that, but i still find it very joyless

cher guevara (lex pretend), Thursday, 31 December 2015 21:32 (nine years ago)

there was a really great remix of "love me like you do" that dj q played a lot but every time i strained to catch an echo of its magic in the original i failed

cher guevara (lex pretend), Thursday, 31 December 2015 21:33 (nine years ago)

i would w/o a moment's hesitation have voted 'on my mind' of hers (peaked #7) over everything itt. jaaaaam

this was v good though yeah

r|t|c, Thursday, 31 December 2015 21:48 (nine years ago)

the beat to 'on my mind' is great but the way she sings it ggggggnnnnnahhhhhhhhhhh

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 31 December 2015 22:06 (nine years ago)

lol i hated "on my mind," rare rtc/brad divisions running throughout this thread

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 December 2015 22:16 (nine years ago)

System, Friday, 1 January 2016 00:01 (nine years ago)

smh i yield to no pagan in my love 4 this great lost rng banger. a gemma fox answer record to wiley/ruff sqwad 'together' remixed by dexplicit to be v precise

r|t|c, Friday, 1 January 2016 11:38 (nine years ago)

newsflash btw there is like zero fucking diff between 'can't feel my face' and 'want to want me', forgive me if i don't automatically drop trou at the winsome exuberance of singing like adam levine rubbing on his nipples

r|t|c, Friday, 1 January 2016 11:54 (nine years ago)

well I like both of those songs

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 1 January 2016 12:32 (nine years ago)

I like'em both too, and singing like Adam Levine rubbing his nipples is not being Adam Levine rubbing his nipples.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 1 January 2016 12:37 (nine years ago)

riveting as it is to read what u guys like or u dont like i was addressing the actual reasoning upthread

r|t|c, Friday, 1 January 2016 13:14 (nine years ago)

"singing like is not being" meh a pop song is its own stage

r|t|c, Friday, 1 January 2016 13:19 (nine years ago)

on my stage Adam Levine has no nipples, he's the Ken doll of our hearts

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 1 January 2016 13:24 (nine years ago)

that is verging on insight alfred. does derulo manifest nipples where there were none previously...? the real question is then what is the appeal of nipples or the presence of (implicit/overt?) and to what extent does their also being made of plastic (therefore performative/gestural) matter

r|t|c, Friday, 1 January 2016 13:54 (nine years ago)

plastic nipples are a simulacra of desire, forcing us consider how much we want to want him

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 1 January 2016 14:00 (nine years ago)

well i like both nipples

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 1 January 2016 17:20 (nine years ago)

heard 'love yourself' for the first time the other day and i dunno if i can think of a more charmlessly hateful hit single

lazy rascals, spending their substance, and more, in riotous living (Merdeyeux), Friday, 1 January 2016 17:27 (nine years ago)

I had no idea that Jess Glynne was so popular

i;m thinking about thos Beans (Michael B), Friday, 1 January 2016 18:12 (nine years ago)

in my defense i've never really heard levine in "want to want me," and "can't feel my face" is more about dissolving oneself into someone else than excitement or desire per se. the latter's all about build and release and the former's more of a tense glass pyramid, which is why i get it when people say they can't get any joy from it.

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 1 January 2016 18:13 (nine years ago)

jess glynne is truly a chart curiosity for the ages

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 1 January 2016 20:24 (nine years ago)

i kind of like hold my hand for it's cece penistonisms instead of being the de rigueur robin s knock-off, but she is more of a foghorn than a siren it's true

seb mooczag (NickB), Friday, 1 January 2016 20:50 (nine years ago)

That "Love yourself" sounds like that "I don't want you back" in that it sounds that this is the 'radio play' version..

Is there an 'explicit' version, or would that be a step too far for the 'Beliebers'' parents/guardians?

derulo himself is not relevant but certainly i'd agree there's a direct correlation between the song's synthetic quality and the dissociated/mediated/processual state of "wanting to want". in this respect he excels as modern demagogue

the plastic male nipple is a signifier not only erotic but also vestigial/atavistic (much like disco) - it is the ersatz humanity of the song

good work

this isnt a point of difference tho just a reflection of pre and post states of attaining the same fix. the thraldom is explicitly alike

r|t|c, Saturday, 2 January 2016 04:24 (nine years ago)

xp uptown funkers the most reprehensible on all these polls imo

r|t|c, Saturday, 2 January 2016 04:26 (nine years ago)

I took part in a flashmob dance routine to Uptown Funk, most of the dancers being girls aged around 6 to 10. It was really fun. So Uptown Funk still makes me smile.

My uptown funk memory of 2015 is that at my sister's wedding the DJ played it twice and it cleared the dancefloor both times
