No EASYBEATS thread!?!?

As I noted over in the obit thread, singer Stevie Wright passed away yesterday (or later today for some of us, because Australia). I initially planned to share the news in ILM's Easybeats thread, only to find there wasn't one!

I've got the two-disc "Aussie Beat That Shook The World" set, which has some unintentionally hilarious track-by-track annotation by Harry Vanda that quickly devolves into "Sorry, don't remember it...", "Just an album track, I'm afraid...", and "Sorry I can't help more..." after about 10 or 15 tracks. Despite that, the collection is pretty solid, tracking the band's history from their Stones-y early R & B days to international success with "Friday On My Mind", and then their quick fall despite being capable of quality PopPsych.

Australia's first major Rock export, despite the fact that all the members where immigrants (including the Dutch Vanda's songwriting/producing partner George "Big Brother of Malcolm & Angus" Young from Scotland).

Here's a four song set from German TV in '67:

RIP. their song "good time" rocks so hard, it makes you want to be in a band just to play it. plus the way it's proto ac/dc in the space it leaves for the drums between the guitar blasts. such a great song. i have a 2LP compilation called "absolute anthology" that's solid all the way through. but often i wind up putting "good times" on endless repeat.

Cosign on Absolute Anthology, great comp. You Said That, Sorry, Bring a Little Lovin, even the later psych/prog stuff is good for what it is

five months pass...

Pretty great cover of Good Times (re-titled Gonna Have A Good Time) by the guy who's going to go on to write Physical and Genie in a Bottle. Don't think Spotify has it.

That BBC4 documentary about Aussie rock centered around the Young family and Harry Vanda is worth watching.
