I didn't really get into it on first listen (the front bottoms). I'll give it another go. I loved the first couple. This one seemed less intimate, I guess. I'll listen to it again.

Maybe my favorite emo-ish thing so far this year is the new album by Brightr, which I think is definitely emo despite mostly being just singing and an acoustic guitar.

I mean, they are the Yuck of 2016, but that is OK w/ me.

A friend of mine loves that record and pitched it to me sounding a lot like early Jimmy Eat World, but I don't hear it. Unless "early-Jimmy Eat World" is just code for 90s emo, and even as early as Static Prevails, Jimmy already sounded more ornate than most of those bands.

I just listened to the Rosenstock for the first time today and I'm bit blown away. I'm looking forward to digging into it.

we cool? is basically perfect. haven't made it all the way thru Worry yet

Listening to the end really pays off. It closes with a fantastic medley of short songs.

I can already see myself memorizing all of the lyrics on this.

I edited the medley into one track and use it for exercise and general uplift, it is the greatest inspiration ever

Which are the more pop-punk albums in that list? I've only heard the Rosenstock.

It's only about 25 minutes long, but it's lovely! They really upped their game this year.

Also here to echo what you're all saying about the new Into It. Over It. They nail their sentimental atmospheres in every song. None of it is filler.

That Look Mexico album is wonderful!! Can't remember if I've stressed my enthusiasm for it yet or not. That's top 5 emo of the year for me and favourite find itt.

for me JEW is almost exclusively about Bleed American

Understandable, though I think the entire Static Prevails/Clarity/Bleed American/Futures run is essential.

the Smith Street Band is pretty good like emo version of Royal Headache

anyway, there's something kind of cool when you hear a song and you know they just wrote the song that will close their sets for as long as they are a band

don't sleep on the BASEMENT album it is nothing you haven't heard before but it is delicious
