Wanted to start a new rolling footwork and juke-related thread as the title of the one we've been using for years doesn't really reflect what's happening so much any more.
Figured it would be nice to open this out to some of the more esoteric dance styles that have been emerging around the world too, seeing as many of them seem to share that broken / cut-up / / hard / fast / unpredictable rhythmic style.
So take this thread as you will - if it fits or if it don't, post up your tracks.

should footwork really be chucked in with the others? im not sure anyone making chaabi cares about footwork.
― StillAdvance, Friday, 15 January 2016 12:29 (eight years ago) link
I'm really interested in this kind of crossover trend of sampling tiny snatches of African rhythms in this way. Posted this DJ Paypal track on the old thread:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wgtfx8RttME
Which shares a similar vibe to this from Italian producer, Clap! Clap! (who is doing a show in the UK with Omar Souleyman in March)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp4vSJyVoGk
And also this from the Lisbon producer Nigga Fox, who along with Marfox has been spearheading their own Cargaa-style, releasing tracks on Warp and footwork label Lit City Trax.
― canoon fooder (dog latin), Friday, 15 January 2016 12:38 (eight years ago) link
xp yeah, I'm not trying to lump them in with each other, it's just that electro chaabi etc won't really get discussed on other dance-related threads.
― canoon fooder (dog latin), Friday, 15 January 2016 12:39 (eight years ago) link
well that's a good start. sorry for the repost - here's the Nigga Fox track:

ok whatever! i love electro chaabi, at least the cairo liberation front mixes i have, so would welcome any tips for more like that.
― StillAdvance, Friday, 15 January 2016 12:44 (eight years ago) link
I take it you've heard the EEK x Islam Chipsy stuff? Not strictly electro chaabi, it's its own thing. Two drummers and an absolutely incredible synth wiz making awesome heart-pounding stuff

I've been toying with the idea of buying up a bunch of footwork (and related) vinyl online and teaching myself how to DJ properly... Is this a wise choice? All my mixes are kind of pre-prepared digital affairs rather than on the fly mixes. Footwork is still relatively niche where I live, but the appetite for booming bass has always been very high.
