Because I was just listening to "Strugglin'" and thinking maybe this is my favorite track on it, and we've never given this the poll treatment.

Although early Alison Goldfrapp cut is hard to deny in its prettiness.

Maxinquaye

Can't decide. I choose every track besides "pumpkin". Or the second half as a whole.

Overcome
Aftermath
You don't
Strugglin
Feed me (is that what the last one is?)

suffocated love too

That was just my shortlist appended to the end there

lute bro (brimstead), Friday, 29 January 2016 04:16 (ten years ago)

j., Friday, 29 January 2016 04:20 (ten years ago)

Ponderosa

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 01:36 (ten years ago)

the second half of this album is flawless

lute bro (brimstead), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 03:49 (ten years ago)

(from aftermath forward)

lute bro (brimstead), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 03:49 (ten years ago)

First half of the album up to and including "Aftermath" is perfect IMO!

Sofialo Ren (Leee), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 05:18 (ten years ago)

"ponderosa" because martina's voice is at its dgaf best there

cher guevara (lex pretend), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 08:54 (ten years ago)

Either Ponderosa or Pumpkin for me. I've never been able to get into the second half of this at all.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 2 February 2016 13:05 (ten years ago)

Tricky's never been good for more than half an album at a time. Everything through "Aftermath" is great, everything through "Ghetto Youth" on Pre-Millennium Tension is great.

PMT is a better album IMO.

PMT has a bigger side two problem.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 2 February 2016 13:58 (ten years ago)

I feel like it's more cohesive, plus that version of "Lyrics of Fury" is really good.

Now I'm wondering if PMT will get a 20th anniversary deluxe reissue this year (originally released November 1996). Probably not, though there are at least 8 remixes and B-sides scattered across its three singles.

Black Steel is just one of the best things ever. "Public Image meets Public Enemy" , as my friend described it.

a song in which martina does not play the starring role winning = WRONG

cher guevara (lex pretend), Wednesday, 3 February 2016 07:47 (ten years ago)

the late great, Wednesday, 3 February 2016 07:50 (ten years ago)

nine years pass...

Bought this ages ago, gave it a listen and put it away. Took it out on a road trip the other day; still don't connect with a lot of it, but "Black Steel"'s worth that A+.

Overcome is pretty great as well

kornrulez6969, Monday, 18 August 2025 23:09 (five months ago)

30 years of this masterwork, damn

nashwan, Monday, 18 August 2025 23:13 (five months ago)

I've always felt that the second half of this was underrated - perhaps reflecting that all of the first 6 tracks were singles and none of the second 6 were. "Feed Me" is amazing and deserved more votes (though as did "Aftermath" in fairness).

MTV moves too fast, I refuse to understand

brimstead, Monday, 18 August 2025 23:52 (five months ago)

Otm Tim, the second half is totally next next level
