The beautiful 1993 techno compilation.

Most, if not all of the tracks were exclusive at the time of release which makes the quality and congruence of mood all the more remarkable.

only know Icon and At Les but if any of the others come close to their greatness I thank you

i remember picking this up in 1993 and putting it back and buying this instead.

oh wait i guess that's nsfw

the late great, Friday, 5 February 2016 06:52 (nine years ago)

anyway my shortlist would be bango, redcell and carl craig ... as one's track is pretty good but he has way better work (even on the "reflections" album it was pulled from) ... a lot of the other ones have the kind of old school beats i'm not that into, though in stefan robbers case it interestingly has a whiff of post-dubstep about it in the breakdown

Man I wanted this so badly when I read about it in Mixmag Update. Had thought 69 Desire was on it for some reason. Voting Tedra, one of my favourite 3 or 4 pieces of techno ever.

Wait, is that Slavitza Jovan?

The Stefan Robbers track is just so incredibly otherwordly. Top ten all-time techno for me.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 5 February 2016 14:25 (nine years ago)

^ To be fair, if I saw a comp called Techno Mancer, I think the pun may have persuaded me to buy it as well.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 5 February 2016 14:34 (nine years ago)

There were a lot of punny club music comp series back in the 90s.... Off the top of my head there was Trancesylvania, Trance Europe Express, House Rausch, Goa-Head, Tour de Trance, Raveolution...

Never thought so at the time but I guess the title is partly a reference to Warp's Artificial Intelligence. And does the cover riff on the Glider EP cover? Perhaps not. But how can you not dig Virtualwoman's wedge (haircut)?

Noel Emits, Friday, 5 February 2016 17:26 (nine years ago)

three weeks pass...

Speaking of puns, I saw a Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia LP today, and for the first time noticed the pun in the name.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 26 February 2016 13:54 (nine years ago)

Ah, New Edge?

I suppose it could even have been New Hedge, given association with TOPY(ary).

Wait... what's the pun?

EDB, Tuesday, 1 March 2016 20:40 (nine years ago)

Maybe it’s not supposed to be a pun after all, but the other day I was reading it as psy chick.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 1 March 2016 21:12 (nine years ago)

jeez, i can't decide between "at les", "in version" and "mystical adventures". "at les" is clearly the best track but i don't want to vote for it out of overfamiliarity. "in version" is a little bit b12-by-numbers and "mystical adventures" doesn't quite heat up until the last couple of minutes.

the late great, Tuesday, 1 March 2016 22:56 (nine years ago)

eh voted "at les" because boring

Tie works for me, love both tracks.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 09:15 (nine years ago)

I don't think psychick is a pun and Tedra was robbed here.
