The first video, Mothers of the Sun is 8:30 of insanity.

one month passes...

"Mother of the Sun" is so epic. i've had this on quite a bit lately.

so heavy.

yeah i think this is great! i really didn't like wilderness heart but this is a nice merge of more commercial hard rock with the more proggy trippy in the future era which is obv the best, also like the 80s Raindbow MOR synths, really good digging this so far

wasn't that into the second or third album. this one is as good as the first one, though. fuck yeah

I had mixed feelings about this one at first but it's growing on me very fast

this is really starting to get its hooks into me

Is it really like the first album? That's the only one that stuck with me. I remember thinking the second one felt too grandiose in comparison.

Evan, Thursday, 7 April 2016 15:26 (nine years ago)

um...it's pretty grandiose! it's a little more commercial than the 2nd one...some 80s MOR influence that wasn't there before

did you hear the 3rd one? That was more straightahead

i liked the first album alright and have enjoyed selected tracks since (7" version of "stormy high" is a monster), but i have yet to fully mesh w/ an entire black mountain lp. will this be the one, matt?

it's hard to say, like they are a band that i really really like but at the same time i can understand why someone would just roll their eyes and be like "this is ridiculous", but i guess i like that they push that edge of looking foolish in pursuit of some kind of record collector rock ideal

rockpalast '82 (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 7 April 2016 16:29 (nine years ago)

There was something minimalistic about the first record. I like that, when a band decides on a limited number of ingredients to use despite the potential bloat particular songs might encourage otherwise. I guess I ought to look into the 3rd one as well then.

there was a certain VU quality sometimes to the first one they ended up ditching

rockpalast '82 (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 7 April 2016 16:56 (nine years ago)

the first one is funny and has shitloads of attitude to go with the spacey trips. the second one is too much prog for them too soon i think. the third one is an over-course correction. there's nothing here as immediately jawdropping as "druganaut" or "no hits" or "faulty times" but they've delivered a similar vibe imho

reggie (qualmsley), Thursday, 7 April 2016 17:32 (nine years ago)

She is the key to the band.
