On the liner notes for this album K-Hand says "stay tuned for Detroit-History Part II of Demf 2001". The second Detroit Electronic Music Festival happened in 2001, but she has not released any albums at all in the 15 years since Part 1 came out.

De La Soul's "Art Official Intelligence" was supposed to be a trilogy of albums. On the second album they even advertise the third one, which is supposed to have some "DJ shit". But their next album after Bionix was The Grind Date, and the third "AOI" album has not been heard of to date.

Tom Petty's Wildflowers was supposed to be a double album and maybe a year and half ago Warner's announced they were releasing everything else recorded during those sessions. Still waiting...

Also we have Neil Young's Chrome Dreams II, but not the original.

Though Stevens' subsequent work was sometimes speculated to tie into future "States" projects,[48][49] and Stevens himself would make occasional statements alluding to the future of the project,[50] The Guardian published an interview with Stevens in 2009 in which he stated in relation to the Fifty States Project: "I have no qualms about admitting it was a promotional gimmick".[43]

Although I admire her staggering productivity, I've always been a little disappointed that there were no subsequent installments after Janet Jackson issued the 1,814th Rhythm Nation album.

I liked The Residents' American Composers series, but when CDs took over they couldn't do 'One side per composer' anymore so they stopped.

(It was announced that the follow-up to BLACKsummers'night (and the second installment in a planned trilogy) blackSUMMERS'night, was set to be released late 2012, but was never released and the current exact date is unknown.)

badly drawn boys last album was meant to be the first in a series of three, but things didn't go well after that.

Mark G, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 20:19 (nine years ago)

trilogy, yes that was the word I was looking for.

Mark G, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 20:20 (nine years ago)

Paul Weller started a 'one single per month' series, but nobody liked the first one much so he sacked it. I dunno if it got a number as such though.

Mark G, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 20:21 (nine years ago)

(I think it was 'Wild blue yonder' but I might be wring. Or wrong even)

Mark G, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 20:22 (nine years ago)

the residents never did parts 2 and 3 of the mole trilogy either.

the beastie boys- hot sauce committee part one.

the beach boys- stars and stripes, vol. two

coldcut, to my knowledge, still haven't put out two hours of sanity part 2, but i'm hoping they will.

last year jim miles was working on an ep of covers by groups from a-z, but i don't think he ever got past "d is for devo".

Only Part 3 of the Residents' Mole Trilogy remains unreleased (unmade?); The Mark of the Mole was Part 1, The Tunes of Two Cities was Part 2, and The Big Bubble is subtitled Part Four of the Mole Trilogy.

This is the one that I immediately thought of when I saw the thread title. Does Ray really still talk about doing a part two? I'd advise against it, really. I think that album holds up very well on its own, and it's quite possibly my favourite Kinks album of them all.

The Dave Grohl of ILX (Turrican), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 18:36 (nine years ago)

What would part 2 even be? Complaints about how RCA didn't give them enough tour support for unwieldy, inscrutable concept albums that barely sold?

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 18:43 (nine years ago)

Hahahahaha yeah, before complaining about how Arista tried to steer them away from unwieldy, inscrutable concept albums that barely sold.

Ray: "Clive Davis - Head of Arista Records had signed The Kinks as what he described as an "AOR crossover act". We'd just left RCA where we'd been recording our Theatre shows - "Preservation" and "Soap Opera" and the Arista move was intended to take us back into the mainstream away from the craziness of these concept shows. The saying "it's cool but don't play it to Clive" was a signal for the studio engineer to lock the tape away in a drawer and throw away the key."

Syntax - Tripolar, supposed to be 3 EPs released from 2012 to 2013, only the first one ever came out

"Only Part 3 of the Residents' Mole Trilogy remains unreleased (unmade?); The Mark of the Mole was Part 1, The Tunes of Two Cities was Part 2, and The Big Bubble is subtitled Part Four of the Mole Trilogy."

my understanding is that both "tunes of two cities" and "big bubble" were supplemental material that didn't advance the planned storyline at all, which was supposed to take place in parts 3 and 5; eventually half the band quit and they moved on to other things. just as well as far as i'm concerned, as i don't exactly see the mole trilogy as a "lost masterpiece"...

diana krallice (rushomancy), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 23:15 (nine years ago)

"Intermission" is an overlooked gem though. And there's a warning on it saying it's also not part of the Mole Trilogy but part III was coming soon.

Passengers - Original Soundtracks 1. I guess Larry Mullen's hatred for the album/project killed any chance of a sequel.

Guillemots - Hello Land

On 7 May, the band announced through their website that they would be releasing four new albums throughout 2012, under the project title The Emporium of Fine Things. The first, Hello Land! coming out the same day on CD and download. The albums will be released in partnership with The state51 Conspiracy and will come out in relation to the seasons. The band admitted that Hello Land!, the spring-themed abum, had come out a little late. The summer record was tentatively titled On Summer Island, and was due in September 2012 but has yet to be released. In April 2013 Fyfe Dangerfield posted an apology stating that he had been back and forth between the UK and Norway where the album was being recorded but was very excited about the project and hoped it would be completed soon

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 25 February 2016 20:32 (nine years ago)

Should point out they haven't actually released a single thing since that album in May 2012.

I didn't say they have to be albums, any record is fine.

Tuomas, Friday, 26 February 2016 07:43 (nine years ago)

Peter Hammill released an album in 1992 called Fireships which was touted at the time as "number 1 in the Be Calm series". The following year he put out another record called The Noise which was described as "number 1 in the A Loud series". The idea was that he would release ballads as one series and uptempo tracks as another series, but it never went any further.

haha, he should have kept going and have every record be first in a new, somewhat vaguely-named series.

kinda feel like there were some important extenuating circumstance for the lack of followup this one tbh

wasn't the announced tracklist to Hot Sauce Committee Part One exactly the same as Part Two?

frogbs, Friday, 26 February 2016 14:27 (nine years ago)

yeah Hot Sauce Part One just got renamed to Part Two as a dumb joke about the delay in release

I didn't say they have to be albums, any record is fine.

It was a DJ mix on the radio.
