Ballot part one (mandatory and/or part two): Your Top 20 Bauhaus tracks (or less: min. 5). Please order your list with #1 at the top and #20 at the bottom, no need to number them. I will take unranked lists, just clearly state that yours is unranked.

Ballot part two (mandatory and/or part one): Your Top 25 Solo or other group tracks (or less: min. 5). This list includes but not limited to: Tones on Tail, Love and Rockets, Dalis Car, The Jazz Butcher or any Solo album. This part just needs to have one of the original group members or Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, Kevin Haskins or David J. Please order your list with #1 at the top and #25 at the bottom, no need to number them. I will take unranked lists, just clearly state that yours is unranked.

Ballot part three (optional): Your Top albums. You can rank anything and in any order. For instance you might think that Deep is better than any Bauhaus album or Earth, Sun, Moon is better than Burning from the Inside. This part is going to be really fun as we will see how Bauhaus stacks up against all the other groups and solo stuff. This option has no minimum. You do have five Bauhaus albums, seven Love and Rockets albums, one Tones on Tail album and so on. I will accept compilations here.

Send ballots to: bauhauspoll AT gmail dot com. Please include your user name.

Voting is open until Sunday, March 20, 2016 Midnight Los Angeles time zone (Pacific time).

can't believe i messed up that image.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 8 March 2016 04:31 (nine years ago)

so what i have found out is that there is no Bauhaus or related web site, not even one that fans have put together. so this poll is going to be hard to run but looking forward to it.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 8 March 2016 04:36 (nine years ago)

yaaaaaaay!

micro brewbio (crüt), Tuesday, 8 March 2016 04:39 (nine years ago)

i was going to do this like Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized poll and combine the results. i decided not to and run them as two separate polls. i felt like it was like combining Joy Division with New Order, which in my mind are just too different to run together.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 8 March 2016 14:59 (nine years ago)

o Spotify has something on-line that i don't think was actually ever released. on this compilation they had songs i have never heard before like "Watch That Grandad Go," "Earwax," "Scopes" and "In Fear of Dub."

Bee OK, Wednesday, 9 March 2016 03:03 (nine years ago)

damn, was still writing. anyways, always nice to hear new songs that you have never heard before when doing a poll.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 9 March 2016 03:04 (nine years ago)

YESSSSSSS

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 9 March 2016 04:16 (nine years ago)

I have to admit somewhat embarrassingly that I have never listened to their 2008 comeback album Go Away White. Will anybody be voting for songs from it?

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 9 March 2016 14:38 (nine years ago)

Peter Murphy has always struck me as deeply silly/terrible but I love those first few L&R records, so my ballot will consist entirely of tracks from those.

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 9 March 2016 21:09 (nine years ago)

i have not heard Go Away White either. not sure if i will get around to it as i have a lot of re-listening to do with the solo stuff. mainly going to listen to Tones on Tail, Love and Rockets and 80's Peter Murphy solo stuff.

Bee OK, Thursday, 10 March 2016 03:00 (nine years ago)

looks like this needs to turn into a campaigning thread.

Bee OK, Friday, 11 March 2016 02:39 (nine years ago)

cool, didn't know there was a video for this song, brilliant:

Bee OK, Friday, 11 March 2016 02:40 (nine years ago)

Yes it fits the song so amazingly well.

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 11 March 2016 04:35 (nine years ago)

i have just checked this inbox and some great news. i now have more ballots then different posters in this thread. YaY, we need the votes and i hope i get enough to go all out on this poll. i have BIG plans.

Bee OK, Friday, 11 March 2016 15:02 (nine years ago)

BTW, everyone will get confirmation emails but those won't start going out until next week.

Bee OK, Friday, 11 March 2016 15:07 (nine years ago)

My Bauhaus ballot is ready, I have to relisten to some Tones On Tail and Love and Rockets before I complete the other one.

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 11 March 2016 19:19 (nine years ago)

This might be my favourite song of all of Bauhaus-and-related-projects...

lingereffect (Kent Burt), Saturday, 12 March 2016 00:01 (nine years ago)

"Alcohol is your yoga baby" yeap a great song, "Beauty beauty beauty beautiful." i'm sure that will make my ballot.

Bee OK, Saturday, 12 March 2016 03:37 (nine years ago)

today's pick and one of Love and Rockets best rides.

Bee OK, Saturday, 12 March 2016 04:13 (nine years ago)

This is going to be weird, as Love And Rockets (Earth Sun Moon) was essentially the soundtrack to my sophomore year of college, and seemed to be everywhere. I literally don't know anything about Bauhaus except for Bela and Ziggy. I'm not sure if there's another poll where I'm so much more familiar with the spin-off band than the original. Actually, I might know Jazz Butcher better than any of them.

dlp9001, Saturday, 12 March 2016 22:57 (nine years ago)

I'll kind of add that I don't know what other people's experiences were, but for me in 1987 "Earth, Sun, Moon" was completely the go-to album when you didn't know what to put on when friends came to visit. It was like putting on Rumors or Tapestry or the like in other decades. Which is odd, because I didn't have any particular investment in the band themselves. As of right now, I couldn't tell you thing one about the band members...

dlp9001, Saturday, 12 March 2016 23:03 (nine years ago)

i'm pretty much with you on that, just personal differences. will say more in the main thread.

Bee OK, Sunday, 13 March 2016 03:41 (nine years ago)

was not going to promote any main songs but it's Saturday Night:

and i felt like dancing

Bee OK, Sunday, 13 March 2016 03:56 (nine years ago)

it was a similar situation with the first love and rockets album in my first year of university. i'd hear it everywhere and was always asking people who were playing it if they liked bauhaus and would almost always get totally blank looks.

stirmonster, Sunday, 13 March 2016 13:50 (nine years ago)

I could never really get into Earth Sun Moon at the time. It's very slow and psychedelic.
Before hearing Bauhaus or knowing who they were, I used to see their logo on a lot of t-shirts and stickers in the city. I thought it was so cool and kind of mysterious. This was after they'd broken up, around 86-87, so when I made the connection through Love and Rockets and Peter Murphy I got the 1979-1983 double vinyl and was pretty much shocked at how heavy and raw and dark it was compared to them. Much more up my alley. It wasn't long before I bought everything else.

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 13 March 2016 18:39 (nine years ago)

Relistening to ESM and I'm loving it now!

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 13 March 2016 19:24 (nine years ago)

a song i haven't heard in years:

Bee OK, Monday, 14 March 2016 01:33 (nine years ago)

This is nice but I was never a huge solo Peter Murphy fan. He became really tame compared to what he did with Bauhaus.

LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 14 March 2016 01:53 (nine years ago)

two things I have noticed

1) the 1989 Love and Rockets album with "So Alive" on it is really really good!
2) this song is insane:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7q6gDlp3Jg

micro brewbio (crüt), Monday, 14 March 2016 11:53 (nine years ago)

Forgot about that one

Bee OK, Monday, 14 March 2016 19:02 (nine years ago)

Peter Murphy: I'm getting ready for an American tour at the moment. It's a double headliner with a band called She Wants Revenge. I've also recently sent a letter to Axl Rose asking him if he wants to work with me. In the 1980s he wore one of my t-shirts during an interview, plus I'd like to reach that audience.

sad that we never got to hear the horror/genius of a Peter Murphy-Axl Rose collab

micro brewbio (crüt), Monday, 14 March 2016 20:50 (nine years ago)

that is great, i do wonder if that t-shirt was of him or Bauhaus? i bet it was the band. would have loved to see what would have happened if they got together and recorded something.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 15 March 2016 02:45 (nine years ago)

doesn't get much better:

Deep remains one of my favorite albums of the early '90s college radio interzone.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 15 March 2016 02:51 (nine years ago)

Dalis Car and Jazz Butcher are total blind spots for me so I can't wait to hear what you guys have to say about them.

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 15 March 2016 03:59 (nine years ago)

my favorite Dali's Car: https://youtu.be/JZ2TQc-wwbw

micro brewbio (crüt), Tuesday, 15 March 2016 13:15 (nine years ago)

I am a total Jazz Butcher fanatic but ya gotta stick with the stuff on Glass, the Creation material gets dicey

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Tuesday, 15 March 2016 14:21 (nine years ago)

and yeah the L&R rhythm section is killer on a lot of those tracks

the 'major tom guy' (sleeve), Tuesday, 15 March 2016 14:22 (nine years ago)

1) the 1989 Love and Rockets album with "So Alive" on it is really really good!

last Love and Rockets album i bought and know. my ballot will only have stuff from the first four albums unless someone tells me something i have to check out in those '90s albums.

one of my all-time favorite songs:

Bee OK, Thursday, 17 March 2016 03:25 (nine years ago)

That opening chord from "Sweet F.A." is the exact same one as Bauhaus' "Kingdom's Coming".

LeRooLeRoo, Thursday, 17 March 2016 05:21 (nine years ago)

i have started to send out confirmation emails.

Bee OK, Thursday, 17 March 2016 13:56 (nine years ago)

even so, you can still edit your ballot if you need to.

Bee OK, Friday, 18 March 2016 02:31 (nine years ago)

I hadn't heard this song in 30 years. I had it on a mix tape when I pulled it from the radio in '85 and it was long destroyed. I finally got Big Questions just a week ago, and have been playing the hell out of it. "The Devil Is My Friend" is also on Bloody Nonsense, a U.S. release that has some of Big Questions singles comp.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbLyZkHi_f8

From their first singles comp, The Gift Of Music, is a wonderfully hyper version of "Roadrunner."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlF_ytUD-yM

"Southern Mark Smith," "Real Mean," "Just Like Betty Page," "Zombie Love," "Death Dentist," "Big Saturday," "Peter Lorre," I've listened to Jazz Butcher way more than Bauhaus the past 15 years, even though I was way more into them at first and are still an important band to me. In that Stigmata Martryr video, Murphy's stage presence seems similar to Nick Cave's from that era, I think coincidentally.

Fastnbulbous, Friday, 18 March 2016 03:38 (nine years ago)

i love how "The Devil is My Friend" references Love and Rockets. haven't listened to Jazz Butcher in the longest time.

Bee OK, Friday, 18 March 2016 13:58 (nine years ago)

Bauhaus with a David Bowie movie, how appropriate.

Not enough of a buff to vote, but I hope "Waiting for the Flood" and "Kundalini Express" do well.

A nationally known air show announcer/personality (tipsy mothra), Monday, 21 March 2016 05:16 (nine years ago)

Should I be concerned that I didn't receive a confirmation e-mail yet?

lingereffect (Kent Burt), Monday, 21 March 2016 21:46 (nine years ago)

Don't worry, confirmation emails are coming tonight

Bee OK, Monday, 21 March 2016 23:05 (nine years ago)

I realized at a certain point that I didn't know Bauhaus well enough to vote on them, and then missed the boat on related bands. I didn't know that David J was on Carolyn Wheeler's Birthday Present (Jazz Butcher) which is actually my favorite song by the bands I *do* know in this poll. So kicking myself for not having voted. I did check out a Bauhaus singles sampler, and was surprised by how close some of their stuff was to L&R. I'd always thought of the two bands as completely different (out of ignorance purely).

dlp9001, Tuesday, 22 March 2016 01:12 (nine years ago)

In The Flat Field is kind of in its own world, almost like a proto-noise-rock album with a dark-glam sheen, but you can definitely hear parts of the Love & Rockets sound start to take shape on the later Bauhaus records. Also definitely listen to Tones on Tail's Everything!, which is Daniel Ash & Kevin Haskins with Bauhaus roadie Glen Campling (whose basslines are as fantastic as anything David J ever did, tbqh).

ejemplo (crüt), Tuesday, 22 March 2016 01:29 (nine years ago)

i have a bit of bad news. work is getting in the way and won't be able to do this roll out this week. my polls look pretty good because i take days off to run polls and i can't this week. going to work with the Stereolab poll to make sure we are not doing two artist polls at the same time.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 22 March 2016 02:53 (nine years ago)

it will just be delayed probably a week but maybe two depending on Stereolab. good news is if you want to submit a ballot i will still take them for one more week.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 22 March 2016 02:54 (nine years ago)

good news, i have worked it out with Moka. this will only be delayed for one week. meanwhile, that means people will have more time to submit a Stereolab ballot, win-win except for my 50 hour work week.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 22 March 2016 03:30 (nine years ago)

everyone now has confirmation emails. if you did not get one please resubmit your ballot.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 23 March 2016 01:40 (nine years ago)

i have received a few more ballots in the last 24 hours, poll is still open if anyone's wants to send in a last minute ballot. we got a good number for this poll but wouldn't mind if someone on the fence just submits something.

Bee OK, Thursday, 24 March 2016 01:53 (nine years ago)

Def don't have enough b/g to put a ballot together - liked but didn't love L&R for about a year in high school before they got eclipsed by grunge &tc, have listened to Bauhaus' records a handful of times over 20 years ago (thought Murphy was bad lols & terrible lyrics), & have never to my knowledge heard tones on tail - but have picked up "Express" and some singles in the past year & can feel a binge coming on so I'm really looking forward to the rollout.

hardcore dilettante, Friday, 25 March 2016 16:10 (nine years ago)

i have started to edit the results together and it sort of is blowing my mind. this poll is going to be fucking amazing, just wait. ILM knows their stuff.

Bee OK, Sunday, 27 March 2016 05:16 (nine years ago)

results will start Tuesday at night, of course. and will go until finished...

Bee OK, Sunday, 27 March 2016 05:17 (nine years ago)

Can't wait!
