kurt schwitterz, Tuesday, 15 March 2016 21:45 (ten years ago)

I don't think I've ever heard a cover of a Yes song.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Tuesday, 15 March 2016 21:46 (ten years ago)

there are a lot, almost like bands are too shy to admit they like yes

i think gr8080 already posted somewhere else on ilx but super classic

Not entirely a Yes cover as such but the Buggles version of Into The Lens (aka I Am A Camera) is better than Yes's imo

Thanks for that version of Awaken, great arrangement, if a little safe with the bassline in places.

That ascending 6/8 section before the long quiet middle section is dynamically designed to makes your heart burst I think.

I didn't even realise there were so many Yes covers... I'd always assumed that they'd be the kind of band barely anyone would attempt to cover.

I'm going to kick your ass

akm, Thursday, 17 March 2016 21:59 (ten years ago)

What's really weird is that "State Of Independence" by Jon & Vangelis became so frequently covered and a successful Donna Summer song.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Thursday, 17 March 2016 22:08 (ten years ago)

proto-disco bros vangelis, tangerine dream, and mike oldfield all knew JA was the shit. i'm still trying to get over kurt schwitters reappearing among the living. yes is a truly miraculous band

reggie (qualmsley), Thursday, 17 March 2016 22:25 (ten years ago)

Oh yeah, Sarah Silverman covered Yes, that was odd.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Friday, 18 March 2016 17:22 (ten years ago)

ja is the shit. its like super sad chris and him didnt tour again ever after their dumb break up. the rumor is chris was pissed that jon gave away a bunch of publishing rights to his ex in a divorce.

kurt schwitterz, Friday, 18 March 2016 17:25 (ten years ago)

I hadn't heard that!

now that squire is dead, basically any song performed by "yes" is a cover of a yes song. they do a pretty good job.
