This track is incredible, I must have played it six or seven times this morning alone. The drums bang and bang and bang and seem to shift consistently, the flutes spiral and split in two and keep threatening to spin right off into outer space. It's got that perfect balance of dancefloor destroyer and head-spinning wibble that you associate with the best acid house, while sounding nothing like it.

I feel honoured that humanity has existed on earth for millennia and I got to exist at the same time as this record.

some discussion on rolling footwork etc thread

bit fast for my taste

I have an ideological aversion to that thread, even if 99% of the music is incredible it just feels faintly appalling to be lumping in completely disparate and mostly-unconnected scenes together like some Home Counties Diplo.

Track itself is monstrous enough to merit its own thread anyway.

Home Counties Diplo

are you attempting to start beef with dog latin or what

I think I've already said it before, but Principe is the most thrilling thing that happened in Lisbon since I remember living here.

I really recommend Normal Nada (he's the strangest from the crew, i guess): https://principediscos.bandcamp.com/album/transmuta-o-cerebral

DJ Maboku is still my favourite DJ at the monthly parties they do: https://principediscos.bandcamp.com/track/laranjas

This is also great, from the Blacksea Não Maya crew: https://principediscos.bandcamp.com/album/calor-no-frioo-2

and Nídia Minaj is really special: https://principediscos.bandcamp.com/track/sentimentos

This is excellent, thanks - I only really know Nidia Minaj out of that lot.

Considering a weekend in Lisbon in the summer and wondering when and where would be the best places to go to actually dance to this stuff.

They have a monthly residence in a club called MusicBox, in the center of the city. I try to go every month and most of the times it's really surprising.

This is also one of my favourite of the crew. Just to beautiful to describe it. From the Tia Maria Produções Crew. I think the producer - Puto Márcio - is 18 years or something.

too beautiful*

Definitely a track I could go crazy to, but the flute loop honestly adds nothing for me and sounds forced.

this is good, although i don't think it's necessarily more exciting than some of the other Principe records (or say that Lechuga Zafiro EP i posted in the other thread)?

I have an ideological aversion to that thread, even if 99% of the music is incredible it just feels faintly appalling to be lumping in completely disparate and mostly-unconnected scenes together like some Home Counties Diplo.

mmmm yeah i would prefer a 'rolling non-techno club music' thread or something, but oh well.

I like that thread because although it conflates a bunch of things that have nothing to do with each other, it inherently favors the originators of said genres over white hypebeast (or potential white hypebeast) recreations thereof.

What I can agree is HOLY FUCK THIS IS AMAZING OH MY GOD YES OH MY GOD I WANT TO DANCE TO THIS FOREVER.

Also, I just feel like there hasn't been space on ILM in recent years that highlights the non-bobbins dance music I care about.

good point, and i couldn't agree more about non-bobbins

also Matt thank you for starting this thread because more people need to hear the Good News

LOL @ 'Home Counties Diplo'.

I've been at pains to state more than once on that thread that it's absolutely not an attempt to conflate or appropriate these styles in the way you say. Rather, it's more like the Time Travel thread - a place to discuss smaller dance and electronic genres that don't fit in Bobbins. Plus folks like Marfox and DJ Spinn both get featured on labels like Lit City Trax. And yeah these have almost nothing to do with Shangaan or Chaabi but since we're pretty far off having a rolling Chaabi thread at this point in time, may as well discuss it there. Maybe if the thread continues into next year we could give it a snappier, more esoteric name.

Anyway whatever, this track is superb.
