Get a lot of Moodyman vibes on this one. Great record!

r|t|c, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 09:37 (nine years ago)

^ moody man vibes

nashwan, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 10:55 (nine years ago)

hehe

this album is highly milquetoast and i don't get why people are gagging over it

the song w/ syd tha kid is pretty nice but otherwise nothing sticks

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 11 May 2016 13:51 (nine years ago)

i don't really get kaytranada as a producer

cher guevara (lex pretend), Wednesday, 11 May 2016 14:05 (nine years ago)

From reading this thread I'm still none the wiser as to what this actually sounds like.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 11 May 2016 14:21 (nine years ago)

moodymann if he was afraid of disrupting the lilypad

(moodymann comparison makes no sense btw)

i liked his janet jackson and teedra moses remixes, even the mobb deep song was o-k, but nothing quite 'lands' IMO. it all sounds a bit like someone whos good at dabbling, or just trying everything hes just heard on youtube out, not much diff from a dozen kids on soundcloud. his hip hop doesnt quite bang, and the house doesnt quite groove (or maybe this is what makes him interesting to people? i dont know). does remind me a bit of various post-neo soul/alt-R&B (or whatever you want to call it) from the last decade though.

No, it's not perfect, but the album has some very good moments. It's something between Los Angeles-era Flying Lotus and the last The Internet album

Shin Oliva Suzuki, Wednesday, 25 May 2016 14:01 (nine years ago)

Yeah I'm not gonna bother.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 May 2016 14:03 (nine years ago)

all i've heard is the Janet remix and the single, but to me it feels like Soulection-does-dance? which is fine, but not what i'm looking for.

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Wednesday, 25 May 2016 14:07 (nine years ago)

and the house doesnt quite groove (or maybe this is what makes him interesting to people? i dont know)

not heard the album yet but 'Leave Me Alone' is surely an exception to this

nashwan, Wednesday, 25 May 2016 14:41 (nine years ago)

leave me alone is nice enough. but it all sort of just floats in and out. its not like i need 'attitude' in everything i listen to, but its like someone trying a bit of this, trying a bit of that, then jumping to the next thing. its like he thought 'hmm let me do a bit of soulful house' and that was what he came up with. maybe i need to hear it in a club rather than at work on earphones.

Man, his "Cranes in the Sky" remix is such a lazy reworking.

this album bangs

totally unnecessary bewbz of exploitation (DJP), Wednesday, 22 January 2020 17:17 (five years ago)

He should’ve waited until January to release it. With all the eoy and eod lists + xmas season I feel like albums from december 2019 got unfairly overlooked.

I agree this has a good ratio of bangers

Posted this on rolling r&b; was alerted that the producer has his own thread... I think it’s an intriguing & accomplished track:
