"Suddenly all the living things of Earth were in the audience going crazy" - Neil Young & Promise of the Real - EARTH official thread #BeeBreakdowns

Felt this needed an official thread....

"We made a live record and every creature on the planet seemed to show up," Young wrote on Facebook. "Suddenly all the living things of Earth were in the audience going crazy. Then they took over the stage, letting their wild sounds mingle with the Vanilla Singers' perfect corporate harmony. Earth's creatures let loose, there were Bee breakdowns, Bird breakdowns and yes, even Wall Street breakdowns, jamming with me and Promise of the Real!"

Last month, Young spoke about Earth to Rolling Stone. "It's like nothing that I've done," he said. "It's more like a giant radio show. It has no stops. The songs are too long for iTunes, thank God, so they won't be on iTunes. I'm making it available in the formats that can handle it … Imagine it's a live show where the audience is full of every living thing on Earth. And also they overtake the music once in a while and play the instruments. It's not conventional, but it is based on live performance."

So "Love & Only Love" is on Tidal right now! Holy shit this smokes

TIDALLLLLLLL! I don't have Tidal.
Here's an interesting bit from the listening party premiere event
Explosive album closer "Love and Only Love" sprawls out for more than 25 minutes, becoming more of an abstract soundscape than a song by the end, with undulating feedback and cymbal crashes complementing the swelling wildlife sounds.

Vampire Blues is up...good version.... Some overdubbed mouse noises are a little more over the top and during the actual song

On Stephen Colbert

curmudgeon, Friday, 27 May 2016 04:02 (nine years ago)

Talking with him, but will he perform?

curmudgeon, Friday, 27 May 2016 04:09 (nine years ago)

A mostly dumb interview by Colbert, with lots of forced bad jokes

curmudgeon, Friday, 27 May 2016 14:50 (nine years ago)

three weeks pass...

i think this is out now? my tidal trial sub ran out :( :( :(]

pitchfork review was middling in a way that made me think I would really like it

Steve Gunn Mann-Dude (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 18:53 (nine years ago)

think it's out on friday ... the record company sent me watermarked promos that refuse to play in any of my CD players, which I think Neil would appreciate.
the WTF interview was OK, though it rehashes a lot of the old stuff. liked that neil had spent the morning of the interview walking on Zuma Beach.

Steve Gunn Mann-Dude (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 19:52 (nine years ago)

on the maron interview, neil suggested people should pirate the new album from tidal ... does he know how to do this? dm me neil if you know how 2 rip from tidal.

Whenever I see the word "Pono" I think of the cartoon boner "Boing!" sound.

(is it live or is it pono)

le Histoire du Edgy Miley (difficult listening hour), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 21:49 (nine years ago)

trick question, pono hi-rez audio is better than live!

dunno if it's still the case but not so long ago you couldn't easily get the FLACs from Tidal just by looking at your browser's network tool, as Tidal wouldn't even try to hide the URL of the files

cookware regression (Dinsdale), Thursday, 23 June 2016 16:46 (nine years ago)

finally listening to this ... it's pretty good so far! definitely some Human Highway (the movie) vibes. amazing guitar sound obviously.

tylerw, Thursday, 23 June 2016 18:08 (nine years ago)

tylerw, Thursday, 23 June 2016 18:14 (nine years ago)
