oh, and I checked: There were promos: https://www.discogs.com/Oasis-Go-Let-It-Out/release/1591842

Mark G, Monday, 23 May 2016 12:46 (nine years ago)

although,
https://www.discogs.com/Boo-Radleys-Kingsize/release/384046 would have been CRE312, probably
https://www.discogs.com/Technique-Sun-Is-Shining/release/303517 maybe would have been CRE318, maybe a rerelease of CRE306

Both exist as promos, so write in for those if you want to.

Mark G, Monday, 23 May 2016 12:54 (nine years ago)

I always felt that "Hold on Hope" was GbV's attempt to write an Oasis song.

rhymes with "blondie blast" (cryptosicko), Monday, 23 May 2016 14:32 (nine years ago)

CRE293 Arnold Fishsounds June 1998

I wish that was the band name, "Arnold Fishsounds"

Mark G, Tuesday, 24 May 2016 09:12 (nine years ago)

if they move, kill 'em still sounds pretty good to me - voting for that

i'd managed to forget how terrible hurricane #1 were but reading the title of 'only the strongest will survive' somehow dredged up a memory of that limp, anemic attempt at an anthemic chorus *shudder*

(main prostitute from Game Of Thrones) (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 24 May 2016 11:25 (nine years ago)

There's only a handful I like here - I'd go for one of these:

CRE284 Primal Scream If They Move, Kill 'Em February 1998
CRE288 Super Furry Animals Ice Hockey Hair EP June 1998
CRE314 Super Furry Animals Northern Lites May 1999
CRE325 Guided by Voices Teenage FBI October 1999

Actually I like 'Swastika Eyes' too but only the Jagz Kooner remix.

Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 24 May 2016 12:28 (nine years ago)

The title track of the Ice Hockey Hair EP is SFA's second best song, so voting for it is unavoidable considering some of the shit on this list. By this point, The Boo Radleys and SFA were the best things on the label. Neither being "Alan McGee" type of bands, either.

Turrican, Tuesday, 24 May 2016 17:42 (nine years ago)

Saint Etienne disappoint here with a couple of lacklustre singles so has to be Ice Hockey Hair doesn't it?

everything, Tuesday, 24 May 2016 17:54 (nine years ago)

Voted Syvlie because it really means a lot to me.

kraudive, Tuesday, 24 May 2016 19:39 (nine years ago)

This b-side of Bad Photographer is one of my favourite Saint Etienne songs.

SFA do kind of take over at this point.

dlp9001, Tuesday, 24 May 2016 20:16 (nine years ago)

Bad Photographer easily my least favorite St Et single :(
Sylvie, on the other hand, what a tune

The Primal Scream singles here are gr8

lute bro (brimstead), Tuesday, 24 May 2016 20:19 (nine years ago)

"Fire in My Heart" was a single but "Wherever I Lay My Phone That's My Home" wasn't?

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 24 May 2016 21:33 (nine years ago)

Noh

Mark G, Tuesday, 24 May 2016 21:39 (nine years ago)

It was supposed to be - it had promos pressed and everything, but it got shelved.

Turrican, Tuesday, 24 May 2016 22:01 (nine years ago)

this is between Primal Scream (agree brimstead), SFA and the Boo Radleys (agree Turrican).

Bee OK, Wednesday, 25 May 2016 01:45 (nine years ago)

i even liked Bernard Butlers solo stuff but wonder what i would think today?

Bee OK, Wednesday, 25 May 2016 01:46 (nine years ago)

Today I think "Not exactly Neil Young, was he Mr McGee?"

Mark G, Wednesday, 25 May 2016 06:51 (nine years ago)

Swastika Eyes.

CRE292 The Jesus and Mary Chain Crackin' Up April 1998

^ i don't really like the jamc but this song is fucking great fyi

real orgone kid (NickB), Wednesday, 25 May 2016 09:45 (nine years ago)

insane, the Jesus and Mary Chain are great. going to sign up and do their poll at some point.

Bee OK, Thursday, 26 May 2016 01:29 (nine years ago)

I made this one run too long as well, didn't I?

Mark G, Monday, 30 May 2016 17:47 (nine years ago)

1997 on was my peak Creation single buying period I reckon. A lot of stuff in there I liked at the time but I'm going with "Fire in my Heart" because it's a genuinely lovely song.

michaellambert, Monday, 30 May 2016 21:54 (nine years ago)

I'd like to think if Creation hadn't folded and they'd carried on putting out records, that they would have moved away from the Oasis type of stuff and repositioned themselves as a label that were more towards the SFA/Boo Radleys end of the spectrum. Basically the Dick Green stuff, not the Alan McGee stuff. Stuff like Mishka showed that McGee was losing interest post-Oasis, he shoulda left the label to Green, who would have pushed the label forward.

Turrican, Monday, 30 May 2016 22:09 (nine years ago)

I mean, christ, you just have to look at what both McGee and Green did after Creation. Wichita (Green's label) or Poptones (McGee's label)? I know which roster I prefer.

Turrican, Monday, 30 May 2016 22:18 (nine years ago)

Is Green still involved with Wichita?

McGee seems to have quietly given up on the label he started with Cherry Red, 359 Music.

michaellambert, Monday, 30 May 2016 23:20 (nine years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Sunday, 5 June 2016 00:01 (nine years ago)

I don't know a lot about Wichita vs. Poptones. I'd think that Beachbuggy would go a long way, but so would Los Campasinos! What's the consensus?

dlp9001, Sunday, 5 June 2016 00:06 (nine years ago)

Wichita all the way.

peak primal scream splitting the votes here

🐸a hairy howling toad torments a man whose wife is deathly ill (James Morrison), Monday, 6 June 2016 01:28 (nine years ago)

Bit of a golden age, by the look of it.

Mark G, Monday, 6 June 2016 06:38 (nine years ago)

Wonder who voted Go Let It Out?

albvivertine, Monday, 6 June 2016 08:26 (nine years ago)

Not me, but I still like that one.
