Mo Murda for me i guess. still love when first of the month comes on the radio tho

Spottie, Thursday, 2 June 2016 18:52 (nine years ago)

"Eternal." But "Budsmokers Only" if I'm going for the one with less cartoonishly violent lyrics.

It's hard to believe these guys were like 14-15 years old when they made this.

Spottie, Thursday, 2 June 2016 19:55 (nine years ago)

I think I could actually make a better album out of the double album Art of War than E 1999

Spottie, Thursday, 2 June 2016 21:51 (nine years ago)

Nevermind, i guess was wrong about that. More like 18-20. I could have sworn they were younger.

Poliopolice, Friday, 3 June 2016 02:08 (nine years ago)

Man, I used to love this album in high school. I can't remember what any of it sounds like, besides 'Tha Crossroads.'

Austin, Friday, 3 June 2016 02:19 (nine years ago)

marcos, Friday, 3 June 2016 03:25 (nine years ago)

Spottie, Friday, 3 June 2016 05:45 (nine years ago)

The bald Phil Collins impersonator cash grab (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Thursday, 9 June 2016 16:48 (nine years ago)

their sound was so singular that if you tried to rip them it was just too obvious (Crucial Conflict).

Spottie, Thursday, 9 June 2016 16:54 (nine years ago)

Is there any other group that even sounds remotely like them? I feel like their influence should be bigger.

Poliopolice, Thursday, 9 June 2016 16:57 (nine years ago)

any of yall read this oral history from last year? great piece https://medium.com/@MatteoUrella/machetes-dipped-in-rum-e591d103b890

marcos, Thursday, 9 June 2016 16:57 (nine years ago)

yeah i read that over the last few weeks, article is loooooooong.

Yeah crucial conflict tried to rip their sound. then in Chicago they had Do Or Die and Twista gaining popularity at the same time, but their production was different, less dark.

the longer story behind it is that he's not that cool. iirc "1st of tha month" is the only contemporary rap track that he really loved that wasn't novelty/jock jamm-y (he loooved "tootsee roll" for instance). but dude followed/still follows my taste more adventurously than most dads i know

nothing against "tootsee roll" which is a jam

but weirdly i think i was able to introduce my parents to bone thugs on the level that "these dudes are kinda singing!"

They set in, then they lead in
They wanting me off in the coffin
Cops from everywhere was yellin' and wailin' I went unconscious
From the stompin' taking ah loss, and waking up in the coffin
And without no stallin'
Cell I was tossed in to be arraigned at dawn and
Looking in the eyes of a judge
He knew right where to put that thug
