I remember people saying, "Poor old Swarb, he won't last the year", like, 20 years ago! So he did awfully well to last this long tbh.

During one of his spells in hospital in 1999, the Daily Telegraph prematurely announced his death and published his obituary. At his next public appearance, he apparently took delight in signing copies of the obit for fans, saying: “It’s not the first time I’ve died in Coventry.”

I think that jigs and reels set got a release a few years back. I have it on a bootleg dvd set of Fairports stuff. Is it Maidstone in Kent?

Definitely very shortly before Richard Thompson left the band. The band just after he left is one of the first ones on the Glastonbury fayre film by Nicholas Roeg.

Damn it, I love Swarbrick. Was lucky enough to see him w/ Martin Carthy at McCabes in the 90s, and i think it blew my teenage mind. Just an unbelievable sound and major charisma too.
But yeah, he'd been battling emphysema since like 1999 or something!

was just watching this rockapalast Fairport thing w/ a weirdo lineup ... not great tbh, but i always just enjoy swarb's stage presence. he was a delight.

yeah they just put out that whole set officially today! blazing. no thompson, but the lean/mean 4-piece is awesome.

Simon Nicol had some big shoes to fill, guitar playing wise, but he did it. Underrated that guy, in fact not even talked about ime.
