sorry about that, here's the real poll with all options available

a poon shaped mule (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 19:46 (eight years ago)

leanin towards Sugah Daddy mostly cuz that was the point at which (on first listen) my being stunned/surprised at the album turned into just pure joy

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 20:02 (eight years ago)

super hard wow

marcos, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 20:12 (eight years ago)

love the opening lines on ain't that easy, such a great opener

1000 deaths is amazing, i think rev compared it to miles 'on the corner' and that is otm

really love total stand-out

but i think i have to go w/ back to the future

marcos, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 20:14 (eight years ago)

As noted on the other thread, Till It's Done because it's a special moment in the record for me where it suddenly feels like the heavens have opened up. As much about its context in the record as its goodness as a standalone track. Could have picked a few other tracks though.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 20:14 (eight years ago)

Godly album, but "The Charade" still feels like the clear pick

Evan R, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 20:31 (eight years ago)

Really Love is p much the only song I listen to from this any more, Betray My Heart a little too I guess. I do like this album but it doesnt come close to Voodoo for me. Or even his debut.

Spottie, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 20:37 (eight years ago)

The Charade.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 20:39 (eight years ago)

Charade certainly has the iconic lyric of the record

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 20:42 (eight years ago)

aint that easy, the charade, prayer & betray my heart are the ones that really draw me back to this album

i think i'm gonna vote betray my heart cuz it prob the only one that could be easily slotted into voodoo lol

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 8 June 2016 20:47 (eight years ago)

I like the album but look at more than half the titles and can't remember a lick or a lyric.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 20:49 (eight years ago)

another life

hah yup

Spottie, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 21:11 (eight years ago)

The Charade is probably gonna be my pick, just a tremendous build to that bridge.

a poon shaped mule (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 22:00 (eight years ago)

but i think i have to go w/ back to the future

I thought of the Back to the Future tracks as the album's weak links before I saw it live and he played them both at once. Such a groove.

a poon shaped mule (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 22:01 (eight years ago)

I know D'Angelo's incredible but how did he play two songs at the same time

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 22:02 (eight years ago)

Relistening now, this album is so amazing.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 22:18 (eight years ago)

still voting "the charade"

The bald Phil Collins impersonator cash grab (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 22:44 (eight years ago)

think i'm going for "betray my heart." it's my favorite groove on the record

i think this album was the best first listen experience i've ever had. i was two beers deep and started playing "ain't that easy" and completely lost my shit

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 June 2016 22:54 (eight years ago)

I love Till It's Done the most. The Charade probably second.

jmm, Wednesday, 8 June 2016 23:53 (eight years ago)

"Ain't That Easy" is so good, the whole first five song run is 10/10, second half isn't as strong imo. Voting for "1000 Deaths" because it just completely blew my head off when I heard it.

Hey (Extended Mix), Thursday, 9 June 2016 00:26 (eight years ago)

Voted Sugah Daddy. I always play that song for people, and they always get this big grin on their faces.

Frederik B, Thursday, 9 June 2016 00:35 (eight years ago)

The Charade over Ain't That Easy

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 9 June 2016 01:06 (eight years ago)

Sugar Daddy is such an amazing arrangement -- it sort of suggests hooks that aren't really there. Subliminal Funk... But 1,000 Deaths is my shit. Like Sly crossed with fIREHOSE.

Blood On The Knobs, Thursday, 9 June 2016 03:00 (eight years ago)

It's such a different record from Voodoo it's hard to compare. I can't say I like one more than the other but I think I get a lot more out of Black Messiah at this time in my life.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 03:09 (eight years ago)

one after the other lol

a poon shaped mule (voodoo chili), Thursday, 9 June 2016 03:12 (eight years ago)

1000 Deaths actually reminds me of this Bernard Purdie video I just watched where he was playing some grooves for a Japanese audience, and it is just like the heaviest thing I have ever heard. Questo and Pino kind of approach that level of heaviness on that track.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 03:20 (eight years ago)

The beat that comes in around :56. P similar feel:

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 03:23 (eight years ago)

you can pretty much sing the chorus over it

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 03:25 (eight years ago)

nice.

Top 3:

Sugah Daddy
Betray My Heart
The Door (or Back to the Futures)

Bottom 3:

The Charade
Till It's Done
Another Life

But I love it all.

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Thursday, 9 June 2016 03:37 (eight years ago)

I'm glad people love "Betray My Heart" - the way the horns get carried away at the end still makes me giddy. "Prayer" is another favourite.

art baengels (monotony), Thursday, 9 June 2016 04:03 (eight years ago)

Betray My Heart is cool as hell.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 04:06 (eight years ago)

Really not a weak track on here.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 04:08 (eight years ago)

omg that purdie video

the world over the crotch. (contenderizer), Thursday, 9 June 2016 04:30 (eight years ago)

Sugah Daddy is so incredible. The hambone beat, the way D'Angelo uses his lower register, the amazing piano progression...

a poon shaped mule (voodoo chili), Thursday, 9 June 2016 04:54 (eight years ago)

Yeah good to see all the Betray My Heart love. That's the one I've gone back to most. I could listen to that groove all day.

A nationally known air show announcer/personality (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 9 June 2016 05:01 (eight years ago)

"Another Life" is too beautiful for me to not vote for it, whole album is obvs incredible though

bunny slopes, Thursday, 9 June 2016 05:15 (eight years ago)

Another Life, but there is not a moment I don't cherish on the whole album

it's getting ott in here / so take off all your clothes (stevie), Thursday, 9 June 2016 09:35 (eight years ago)

i cant really remember these songs in my head, except for maybe charade or 1000 deaths (i enjoy walking around doing a dangelo murmble). does anyone walk around singing anything from here? not that it really matters. not everything has to do that for you. and when its on, i love it. but for some reason im not recalling the second half that well. anyway, id vote for another life or tutu or prayer. only song i dont like that much is back to the future. something about that rhythm thats a bit dull.

StillAdvance, Thursday, 9 June 2016 10:31 (eight years ago)

great album long listen. voted 1000 deaths.

nicky lo-fi, Thursday, 9 June 2016 11:18 (eight years ago)

I sing 'I will never... betray... myyyy heart' quite a bit. Mostly I sing stuff like 'dududududu dudu dudu' (Sugah Daddy, of course) or whistle the theme to The Door. So much about the instruments.

lol every song is gonna get an equal number of votes

Spottie, Thursday, 9 June 2016 16:27 (eight years ago)

the whistling on "the door" kinda makes it unlistenable to me & i always want "another life" to be more than it is so i feel like the album sort of peters out

J0rdan S., Thursday, 9 June 2016 16:53 (eight years ago)

1000 Deaths is gonna get good votes from the weird music voting bloc (hiyo)

imago, Thursday, 9 June 2016 16:55 (eight years ago)

there's some stylistics tune with a sitar on one of their classic albums that i've always loved and another life totally feels like an homage to that

marcos, Thursday, 9 June 2016 16:58 (eight years ago)

i have a feeling that people voting '1000 Deaths' or 'The Charade' were not hardcore Voodoo fans.

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Thursday, 9 June 2016 17:12 (eight years ago)

The album peters out toward the end for me too, but partly just because there is so much going on in each track that I lose stamina.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 17:15 (eight years ago)

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 9 June 2016 17:17 (eight years ago)

I just listened to this whole thing on my morning commute and if anything I was surprised at how much of the back half I actually remembered, stuff like the Door is great

Οὖτις, Thursday, 9 June 2016 17:27 (eight years ago)

so many different faves kind of enhances this record for me -- love The Door, love Back to the Future (both parts), don't actually love the poppier stuff on this record as much (Charade, Really Love). Voted 1000 Deaths, but 2 or 3 others very close behind

Dominique, Thursday, 9 June 2016 17:45 (eight years ago)

whats not to really love about really love?

Spottie, Thursday, 9 June 2016 17:48 (eight years ago)

Totally.

The "When I come around" bits on this song are deliriously beautiful.

my concern would only be that you don't have serenity. (stevie), Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:50 (eight years ago)

i forgot how good this album is

imago, Thursday, 9 June 2016 22:56 (eight years ago)

like, not just 1000 Deaths but the other tracks too

imago, Thursday, 9 June 2016 22:57 (eight years ago)

went with "Another Life" because that's my favorite at the moment, but it could have easily been just about anything.

billstevejim, Friday, 10 June 2016 06:37 (eight years ago)

I'm so in love with 1000 Deaths being back to back with The Charade, I wish I could vote for both, will probably go with the former, but only barely over the latter

the mood and the melanies (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 10 June 2016 07:59 (eight years ago)

Ain't That Easy is what has always stuck with me for some reason

ufo, Friday, 10 June 2016 09:17 (eight years ago)

I love that Charade is, sonically, the 'lightest' track on the album - like it's made out of air and zephyrs and wispy diaphanous silk - but lyrically the heaviest.

my concern would only be that you don't have serenity. (stevie), Friday, 10 June 2016 09:42 (eight years ago)

1000 deaths for me...sounds like a unreleased Eddie Hazel track...brilliant

X-Prince Protégé (sonnyboy), Friday, 10 June 2016 12:05 (eight years ago)

I do love 1000 Deaths, I wish the mix weren't so murky-sounding though.

a poon shaped mule (voodoo chili), Friday, 10 June 2016 13:02 (eight years ago)

1000 deaths is incredible though marred by the sampled NOI speech which for me symbolises those parts of the NOI im not really so into (which is a whole other thread, though one i would be happy to take part in). having to hear it everytime i put the song on irritates me.

StillAdvance, Friday, 10 June 2016 13:11 (eight years ago)

the fred hampton part also makes more sense for the song.

StillAdvance, Friday, 10 June 2016 13:14 (eight years ago)

1000 Deaths sounds like it fell off The Reality Of My Surroundings

my concern would only be that you don't have serenity. (stevie), Friday, 10 June 2016 14:39 (eight years ago)

The murk is what makes it taste so good

I voted "1000 Deaths" and Voodoo is top 5 ever afaic

Hey (Extended Mix), Saturday, 11 June 2016 01:14 (eight years ago)

Like yooooo, he's allowed to do different things. Something like "Betray My Heart" is good but we'd already heard him do that style to perfection.

Hey (Extended Mix), Saturday, 11 June 2016 01:15 (eight years ago)

I have definitely sung "Really Love" to my gf a lot of times.

Hey (Extended Mix), Saturday, 11 June 2016 01:17 (eight years ago)

It's weird how few of the lyrics I know to this album considering how many times I've listened. I have a lot of nonsense syllables that I sing along.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Saturday, 11 June 2016 02:44 (eight years ago)

one of them is "fadoop"

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Saturday, 11 June 2016 02:54 (eight years ago)
