I hated Neil Young's Heart of Gold in the seventies. I hated his voice and especially this sentimental song. Too twee or something for a twelve year old. After my first girl-friend broke up with me I rediscovered Neil Young and suddenly loved him. His voice and lyrics were my consolation. And HoG suddenly wasn't kitsch anymore. Or maybe it still was and I got into kitsch. Whatever.

back when I was sixteen and obsessed with Slayer, Testament, King Diamond and the like, I hated old punk rock, I thought it was weak. Now I love several Richard Hell tunes and just about anything by Wire.

I rarely listen to metal at all anymore, although I do have a soft spot for KD still, and South of Heaven by Slayer.

"Rolene" by Moon Martin. He sings with a flat, Steve Miller/Dave Edmunds like voice .. And I've never liked Robert Palmer songs .. so why do I like this song now? Nostalgia or perversity?

Laura Lee - "Rip-Off"

At first I thought it was positively unfair of her to clear out the cheatin' hubby w/o first giving him a chance to mend his ways. But after awhile the "and the wallpaper too!" line got me giggling and now I think it's a wonderful little revenge fantasy gone a step or two beyond rational thought.

me too! assuming oesaed = ceased, obv. i'd been utterly unimpressed the couple of times i'd heard it as an mp3, but then i was sat outside the north star on finchley road one afternoon in august when it suddenly came blaring out of an upstairs window, and... and it made sense.

Well, maybe not HATED, quite; but I sure didn't have any use for Dead Or Alive's "You Spin Me 'Round" for the first 20 yrs of its existence. Then whaddya know, I hear it on the radio here at work just yesterday and its bouncy-ness blew me away! I was in Stock/Aitken/Waterman heaven. And it's not like I hadn't heard it in years and years - the station plays it every few weeks or so. Strange how that can happen every once in awhile.

Hmm. There are a couple Italo tracks that would fit into this. Most obvious, I think, is "Happy Song" by Baby's Gang. I really loathed that song back when it was new!

I don't think I LOVE it just yet, but I've come round to quite liking "You Get What You Give" by the New Radicals. I hated it when it was out, when everyone I knew with similar tastes to me loved it. I think at this rate it'll be my favourite song ever by about 2023.

Rhinestone Cowboy is an interesting case. When it came out mid 70's, I had no real affection for anything that wasn't heavy or prog. I recently heard RC while driving and was totally done in by Glen's singing. That guy has such musicianship.
