i love this trend of completely fucked timelapse rap production where the beat runs faster than the rhymes, did this start with kill you, its bizarrely slow beatwise, like forty bpm!!

"My Name" w/ Eminem, "Symphony in X Major", "Multiply" remix w/ Busta Rhymes, "Release Date", and "Enemies" are my currently my favs of all the recent stuff. And yeah, "Break Yourself" is *great*, not so much double-time bounce but more like some towering lurker prowl. If I were to destroy, I would skip over "Choke Me Spank Me", mainly because there is no Xzibit (as we know him) on it.

"What You See Is What You Get", definitely.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 4 November 2002 06:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Eh, "Restless" is kinda bad. It sounds like every other gangsta album out there, except a little bit funnier because it has Tash and Snoop (drunk & high, respectively).

"40 Dayz and 40 Nightz", however, is great. "At the Speed of Life" isn't too shabby either (Paparazzi, like Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee said).

I haven't heard the new one too much yet, but on first listen it's a bit to DMXish for my tastes (I'm so hardcore blah blah) and NO LIKS (what the hell?), but maybe I should give it another listen...

I think the new single, Multiply, is fantastic.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 10 November 2002 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

How can any one artist plummet from working with the almighty Alkaholiks to releasing nu-West coast Dreian shite like "X"? That's just a crime against the people that is.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 10 November 2002 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Xzibit is fucking terrible.

Michael Bourke, Sunday, 10 November 2002 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

ok ok look i like the liks and all but xz was always their best mc and dre makes more classic beats in an average year than the catalogues of e swift and madlib combined, dont get it twisted!!

I haven't bought any of his solo stuff yet but I like all I've heard, and his cameo on Kweli's album is dope.

Ethan, do you mean the whole fast rhymes double-timing on slow beats thing? (see hip-hop thread about Dead Prez) If so I love it, and that style is only an inch away from rhyming over jungle beats.
