Go on then!

(cue snarkiness)

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 November 2002 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

we could break it down into 'genres' hehe...come on then, what's the best 'avant' rec, what's the best 'pop' rec, etc etc.

or the best thing would be to not do one. music polls make me want to burn 'democracy'.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 4 November 2002 13:28 (twenty-three years ago)

i know! why don't we have a poll for ilx posters? we could set up some kind of "ILX Awards"!

Denise Lambert, Monday, 4 November 2002 13:29 (twenty-three years ago)

good one ''denise''.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 4 November 2002 13:33 (twenty-three years ago)

how 'bout: only the English can vote for American records and only Americans can vote for English records? or something similarly bats?

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 4 November 2002 13:36 (twenty-three years ago)

and here are the predicted results:

best poster: mark s

worst poster: mark s

sexiest poster: mark s

funniest poster: mark s

best human being: mark s

best male: mark s

best overseas poster: mark s (american/dunedin votes)

best at everything including trig calculus and home economics: mark s

Denise Lambert, Monday, 4 November 2002 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

interesting ILX poll = no "best album" category

Jeff W (Jeff W), Monday, 4 November 2002 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

best album - mark s

Denise Lambert, Monday, 4 November 2002 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I will not rest until I win Ego Of The Year.

kate, Monday, 4 November 2002 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry, the odds on favourite is: mark s

Denise Lambert, Monday, 4 November 2002 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

With guns.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 4 November 2002 14:04 (twenty-three years ago)

ban any record that has won an award at a major award ceremony or from a magazine poll.

jel, Monday, 4 November 2002 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

this is how nazi germany started.

Godwin Slaw, Monday, 4 November 2002 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

why does the poll have to be interesting anyway?

how about just voting for albums you didnt expect you'd like but you did? similarly there could be a 'biggest disappointments' list...or even 'albums you would put in your list but you still havent bought/downloaded yet'

blueski, Monday, 4 November 2002 14:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Next year we shouldn't do a thread about our fave albums of the year every two weeks. You have to build up some suspense, people!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 4 November 2002 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Best albums/singles of 2001.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 4 November 2002 15:23 (twenty-three years ago)

still gillian welch. can't remember what single i said was the best. frontier psychiatrist now seems a long, long time ago, doesn't it?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 4 November 2002 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

We could have the list presented as a ballet ala Ignoble Prize Ceremony!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 4 November 2002 15:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Polls => lowest common denominator wins (Louise / Kylie / Rachel from S Club 7 winning 'Most Attractive Woman' polls). All polls should be composed in the pub drunk.

alext (alext), Monday, 4 November 2002 17:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually making it up while drunk is not incompatible with Tom counting the votes ;-)

alext (alext), Monday, 4 November 2002 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

We could lock the winners in a cage and make them FITE. With KNIVES!!!

kate, Monday, 4 November 2002 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

We could lock the voters in a cage. With lions.

alext (alext), Monday, 4 November 2002 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

One sure-fire way to make any poll more exciting is to simply have a stripper dance on it.

nickalicious, Monday, 4 November 2002 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

"Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and Girls. Dyin' times here."

One sure-fire way to make any poll more exciting is to simply have a stripper dance on it.
I second both of these motions. Sex and violence always gets better ratings...at least from me.

Lord Custos Omega (Lord Custos Omega), Monday, 4 November 2002 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Only if the stripper is MALE and is a DDB. Otherwise ... yawn! If I wanted to look at a nekkid gurl I'd go in the bath. Or buy Rolling Stone.

kate, Monday, 4 November 2002 19:33 (twenty-three years ago)

DDB?

Lord Custos Omega (Lord Custos Omega), Monday, 4 November 2002 19:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Clearly the results of the poll must be turned into a song and performed in a manner similar to Xtina A's video for "Dirrty".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 November 2002 19:38 (twenty-three years ago)

We can compromise and hire a gorillagram.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 November 2002 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Or, even worse, a Gorillazgram.

kate, Monday, 4 November 2002 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

"I'm not happy. I'm feeling glad. I got nominations. In a bag..."

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 4 November 2002 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

BLURILLAZ!!!

kate, Monday, 4 November 2002 19:55 (twenty-three years ago)

"...they're useless..."

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 4 November 2002 19:55 (twenty-three years ago)

A naked Blurillagram knife fight!!!!

nickalicious, Monday, 4 November 2002 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

In a boxing ring surrounded by plushies!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 November 2002 22:46 (twenty-three years ago)

DDB = dirty dronerock boy (aka Kate's one true weakness)

How about an award for best Freudian slip?

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 4 November 2002 22:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Dig five random adjectives out of a dictionary and have everyone vote for "most [random adjective] record."

(Substitute "Cloverian 'superword'" for "random adjective" if you want FITE.)

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 4 November 2002 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

"Best 'fremme neppa venette" thread"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 4 November 2002 23:05 (twenty-three years ago)

(substitute koganoid for cloverian if you want historical precision)

mark s (mark s), Monday, 4 November 2002 23:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Make it clear that choices are personal favorite albums _that you've heard_. Specifically admit that there may be better albums that you haven't heard yet.

I've just started compiling my own favorite of 2001 list, but that's still not long enough ago.

Going back ten years to 1991 there are still albums from that year I haven't heard that will change my opinions.

I've only just heard/bought Spiderland by Slint and that would go in my top ten easily.

Try it yourself: list your top ten albums of 1991 and make a note of how many of them you'd heard before '92 dawned.

meirion john lewis (mei), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Where does this leave the Meatls?

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 23:23 (twenty-three years ago)

each winner to be illustrated by an image selected by mark s

ron (ron), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 04:24 (twenty-three years ago)

The Meatls don't do polls.

paul cox (paul cox), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 04:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Best gigantic creaming cock picture?
