We've had the Donkey Kong Country thread. Thought we could do something similar for Super Metroid? It's got its own special foggy alien vibe that I always loved.

There's a specific watery noise that happens in Underworld's 'Stagger' that takes me immediately back to exploring the eerie catacombs of Crateria back in 1995:

Something really insidious about the whole Metroid aesthetic. It would be lazy to compare it to the Alien films. The theme I just posted comes quite near the start of the game after you go around exploring empty catacombs for quite a while in near-silence. Then you enter a room, trigger something, and when you walk back out the place is crawling with beasties.

completed it yesterday. took me 8 hrs and I only got 75% of the items which is pretty lousy considering how much I played it when I was younger. some parts are ridiculously tricky.

anyway I think someone mentioned it upthread but there's actually a really lovely bit of Japanese style cool jazz niceness that takes place in some of the Maridia sections that's at odds with the menacing vibe of the rest of the game
