My friend and I are attempting a mix that is entirely cover songs. I checked out the covers project, but I am not attempting any kind of continuous string.

What covers have blown you away lately? What are required cover songs that should be on any covers mix?

I think "Dynamite and a Laser Beam" comp of Queen covers is killer. (Which is to say - about 1/3 of it is killer.) The individual cover song to most blow me away recently was seeing Melt Banana do "My Generation" at T T The Bears in Boston about a month ago. Aside from the fact that I love Melt Banana, and have been a Who fan for about twenty years (primarily of the early stuff), I had no idea that they did that cover, so it was a complete surprise.

At the moment, my personal favourite is the Eels take on "Damn, Wish I Was Your Lover" by Sophie B. Hawkins. A perfect example of polishing a turd and making it acceptable.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 09:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Gary Jules - Mad World (Tears for Fears cover (!), to be heard during the final scene of Donnie Darko)

Rufus Wainwright - Across the Universe (singalong)

Coldplay - "OX4"...geddit? WELL DO YOU???

Coldplay couldn't even get close to Mark Gardener's fringe.

Charlie, you've been pushing that Coldplay = OX4 joke for two years at this point. Ned has a point. Not ONE SINGLE MEMBER of Coldplay is attractive. Not ONE SINGLE MEMBER of Ride was a minger.
