Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 - "Stillness"

Such a gorgeous, light album. Amazing versions of "Chelsea Morning" and "For What It's Worth". Possibly the best thing Herb Alpert was ever involved with (he produced)?

There's not much talk about Sergio Mendes in general on ILM.

I went through a Sergio Mendes phase about fifteen years ago and this was my hands down favorite album — even over his earlier piano trio jazz recordings. It's a much more stripped down album and, like you said, the covers are totally ace.

I'm considering getting into a Sergio Mendes phase. Totally not a big name amongst the Brazilian music nuts I know, I guess he was seen as a bit of a sell-out.

Hell of a run!

RIP. He occupied a similar space as Ramsey Lewis to me, a giant whose artistry gets unfairly overlooked due to heads seeing him as middlebrow & corny. Its their loss, there's some incredible albums in his catalog

I was just listening to "Mas que Nada" and "The Look of Love" yesterday while out for a walk. I'm spooked :-(

The Brasil ‘66 records are timeless, can’t hear them as anything but classic

"mas que nada" is one of the first songs i remember hearing played in my home as a little kid. definitely a classic and have always respected him for that alone. rip
