Amber Denise Streeter (born July 7, 1986), known by her stage name Sevyn Streeter, is an American singer and songwriter, best known for being a member of the girl groups TG4 and RichGirl where she was known as Se7en. In 2012, she changed her stage name to Sevyn Streeter.
so first of all she was in Richgirl who gave us the all-time banger "He Ain't With Me Now (Tho)"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp_6sreUlpM
then there was the fearlessly jubilant debut single "I Like It"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eadL2u3Wej0
then there was "It Won't Stop", a delicate wisp of deliberate Aaliyah tributism that not even Chris Brown could ruin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgFiWGIVP6s
which gave us the Call Me Crazy, But... EP, which was bursting with personality and hooks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BglZ9XOfm8E
then another EP, Shoulda Been There, where she comfortably outshone Chris Brown and B.O.B on some perfect r&b-pop
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvOo-SYN0mY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFzodv8Orqs
the neglected classic hometown glory of "4th Street"

and now gearing up for the debut album Girl Disrupted

Even on a single like "My Love For You" which seems initially indistinct in the landscape of contemporary r&b, Streeter performs with an urgency that puts her front and centre. Whatever role her songs require her to play, she fully commits and owns that performance - not in the way that, say, Beyonce performs as Beyonce, but in that she gives herself over fully to the moment or story being told, more akin to Nicole Scherzinger in peak Pussycat Dolls mode. Her songwriting is full of details that lend a certain realness so her voice feels lived-in and authentic, but never at the expense of effortless choruses. All these songs I've posted are so different in what they're trying to do, but I think Streeter is such a versatile talent that they all work.
Anyway rob said I should start this thread so I know I can't be the only one eagerly anticipating this.

I did consider posting even more videos but I didn't want to come over as completely obsessed

Obsession is fine with me. And yeah, she deserves a thread of her own.

"before i do" is #1 on billboard's adult r&b airplay chart this week. but on the mainstream r&b/hip-hop airplay chart, which ranks songs by spins on the currents-based urban format, the song is absent entirely. (on r&b/hip-hop airplay, which combines audience data from both adult and mainstream formats, it's #20.)
just from my own personal experience, "before i do" is the only song of hers that i've heard on the radio more than once since "next", the follow-up to "it won't stop". can't help but wonder if her newfound success at the adult format will affect what music she gets to release in the future, and what this could mean for female r&b artists more broadly.

i like the album but i find 'before i do' pretty boringwas hoping for ol skool

I'm the opposite: her album's left me cold but "Before I Do" is one my jams of the year.

Yeah, the album was a disappointment for me after the long wait, but Before I Do is still one of my favourite songs of the decade.

having spent some time with this properly it is definitely frontloaded and not varied enough to be the wholly captivating work it ought to be, but if this limited success is gonna leave her in label limbo like the many before her then what a waste.
I don't know what any of this chart stuff means as I'm in the UK and your charts are weird and arbitrary and illogical, but I legit don't understand why the Sevyns and K.Michelles of the world don't get any kind of push over here.

eight months since the last singles! It felt like nothing. Anyway here's another new one, sadly it's got yet another Chris Brown feature:

this one has been out a while, i think it's pretty good. i can see from the charts it is being worked to radio, tho i don't think i've heard it on the stations in my area yet
tho he doesn't detract from the song too much it is sad to see that chris brown's presence is still seen to an extent as necessary for her. "before i do" proved she could stand on her own and still get airplay -- and that was one of her best songs! hell, the original solo "it won't stop" was also doing fine even before the version with cb came out and usurped it

I'm in the UK so the chances of me hearing any Sevyn in the wild are slim to none :(
