Yeah, that one.

Tuomas, Saturday, 8 October 2016 07:52 (eight years ago)

lotta good stuff here but I ended up voting for "Down on the Street" (AKA the official anthem of clocking out of your pizza delivery job and leaving the parking lot in a cloud of burning rubber and weed smoke)

NO WALL

savvinesslessness (map), Saturday, 8 October 2016 13:12 (eight years ago)

reading the lyrics now for the first time -- is the speaker supposed to be newly returned from jail/prison? somehow I never picked up on the "no walls" thing before

Tell me who sends these infamous .gifs (bernard snowy), Saturday, 8 October 2016 17:44 (eight years ago)

the only speechsound that ever mattered to me was "cumMAOWn!"

Tell me who sends these infamous .gifs (bernard snowy), Saturday, 8 October 2016 17:47 (eight years ago)

i never checked the lyrics before either. they're pretty good at being suggestive without over-egging it. "real low mind" is excellent. i dig his getting-into-character feline snarl at the beginning.

savvinesslessness (map), Saturday, 8 October 2016 18:35 (eight years ago)

i made this for a love interest. i couldn't get it down to 120 mins so i just put it on a data dvd. i tried to take some of the stuffiness out but it's definitely a little music critic-y. what the hell i have been on this board for 10 years after all. i don't know punk that well tbr. i was going to ask for suggestions in the vein of the damned track. punk that is possibly maybe gay-coded or just kind of purple. dr3w d4niel would know.

savvinesslessness (map), Saturday, 8 October 2016 18:42 (eight years ago)

also it's too white and male but that stuff formed me for better or worse. i'm branching out.

savvinesslessness (map), Saturday, 8 October 2016 18:49 (eight years ago)

it's good to branch out; just don't forget about your core, the heart music: Echo and the Bunnymen

voted for Kate Bush, but that Little Richard song is kicking my ass on first listen & now I'm second-guessing myself for assuming The Essential Little Richard was all I really needed from him

hippie lady from california who loves that god (unregistered), Saturday, 8 October 2016 20:40 (eight years ago)

Bowie

Iago Galdston, Saturday, 8 October 2016 22:08 (eight years ago)

Tough to choose between Television, the Stooges, NY/CH, Velvets, Love, Bowie, Morrison...

I couldn't not vote for Miles.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Saturday, 8 October 2016 22:57 (eight years ago)

I probably would have voted the Miles track a few years ago without hesitation but Slip Inside This House is so beautiful.

and the love song is objectively better than 'life on mars?" fuiud

savvinesslessness (map), Sunday, 9 October 2016 00:51 (eight years ago)

No love for Arthur Russell or Love? Would've picked one of those but I couldn't say no to Kate Bush

carly reagan jepsen (2011nostalgia), Sunday, 9 October 2016 02:10 (eight years ago)

Voted for Acid Police because I thought Boredoms wouldn't get enough respect out of this list. AND I WAS RIGHT

Tom Violence, Sunday, 9 October 2016 04:00 (eight years ago)

it's truly grand

savvinesslessness (map), Sunday, 9 October 2016 04:04 (eight years ago)

Boredoms are one of very few bands that look like they could have a 'the' in front of the name who I never refer to as a 'the' band. Pixies, Melvins, Talking Heads I will sometimes throw a 'the' in front even though they never or rarely have a 'the' in front of the band name on any of their albums. Boredoms I only ever refer to as Boredoms. I'm not sure if that's because I see the other three bands as being a group of Pixies, or a group of Melvins, etc (Tina Weymouth is one of the Talking Heads, but Eye Yamatsuka is part of Boredoms), or because Boredoms' music is so bizarre that every minor detail has to have been planned out and carefully put in place by the artist.
