Everyone's favorite psychedelic, balaeric jam band: Seahawks

For some time now I've really adored these guys. Paradise Freaks was dreamy, hypnotic and gorgeous. Aquadisco funky and spaced out. Vision Quest One: Spaceships Over Topanga Canyon is a total ambient freakout that has a FSOL/Boards of Canada style playfulness with oodles of atmosphere and synth tone. The combination of tropical vibe, ambient electronics, and solid groove is irresistible to me. Surprised they don't get mentioned here. The new one, Escape Hatch, uses a lot more adult contemporary style sax, but in an additive way that builds on their sound. More of that FSOL vibe from VQ1 too. This album feels like the aesthetic "vaporwave" was going for all along but never really achieved. I imagine this music being the soundtrack to a metaverse version of the tropics at night with lasers flashing in the night sky while the soft sound of waves wash upon the shore. Also their cover art is on point.

Escape Hatch is lovely. 'Valparaiso' is a definite jam. These guys are underrated.

you're wrong about vaporwave, btw

seriously, though, once they stopped sampling kenny loggins and player, it just lost whatver magic it had for me and became a couple of dudes painting with color combos i didn't like. fsol comparison is a good one, aural chihuly stuff, they never got through to me and i tried many times.

I like them. "White Horses" on the latest album is a trip.

It's pretty cool Pete Fowler's one half of the group.

Big fan of this remix on Deep Haul:

XP Yeah, I think vaporwave is supposed to be more glitchy and digital in its repurposing of the 80's soft rock aesthetic, but the weird futuristic tropical visuals overlap with what I see while listening to stuff like Floral Shoppe.

It's pretty dreamy, tropical acid music, though. And honestly that style has a lot of lovers and haters. I'm a lover.

this new album is lovely stuff - proper New Age, the title track is making me think of Mark Barrott's "Deep Water"
