australian singer, don't know much about her, new album on stiltbreeze, brief article in rolling stone australia, had some album before the new one, Roses Always Die, one on rice is nice....

very sparse, old organs and drum machines, singer songwriterish but loose and sad and raw in a way that really speaks to me, this is the song that really got under my skin:

i dunno, in a lot of ways it's like a lot of stuff you could namecheck but there's something about her music/lyrics/delivery that seems special to me

this is so great, thank you.

"makin it work" lyrics just floor me, something ragged but also each word has impact

also tbh kinda captures my mood in the post-trump era

She's from New Zealand. 9 classic songs is definitely worth a listen. Visceral songs great cover art (hers).

Ha, came to post the same thing - Wellington mainstay w/her band Batrider in the early aughts (before they moved to Melbourne, and she stayed). She's got a great Chris Knox cover - https://sarahmarychadwick.bandcamp.com/track/one-fell-swoop

On Googling yeah I remember her from last year's Notable Album Covers thread. Hadn't actually listened to her before now - really enjoying the vibe.

she has amazzzing rich vein of varitey in her melancholy playing keyboards mostly these days but she used to do guitar this is one of the favourites and makes me feel all teary sometimes

Sugar Still Melts...is way too much to take in as an album, but all the individual songs are great.A little more variety in the arrangements and pace would do wonders; as it is, it blurs into one long rainy day. She's got one of the best voices going and I love her lyrics -- simple but piercing.

new song is so gorgeous

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-Rxt_ce5rE

sometimes there will be tears
i'll have good years and bad years
i'll have friends and have no friends
loves will start and loves will end

and if there is a god i'd like to thank them for my time
i have had fun no matter how it seems
and though today i'm losing i know tomorrow could be fine
i can't bear to let this end
there's no last line

I'm glad she has another one coming out so soon!

ILX leads me astray yet again. How anyone can tolerate more than five seconds of this person's singing voice is beyond me. Excruciating.
