shoot, i meant to close this on the same day as the tracks poll.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 06:51 (nine years ago)

My Woman

Bee OK, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 06:52 (nine years ago)

I somewhat agree:

1. Solange - A Seat at the Table
4. David Bowie - Blackstar
6. Chance The Rapper - Coloring Book
7. A Tribe Called Quest – We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service
9. Angel Olsen - My Woman
10. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
13. Anderson .Paak - Malibu
16. Kendrick Lamar - Untitled Unmastered
20. Nicolas Jaar - Sirens
23. Jenny Hval - Blood Bitch
25. Kaytranada - 99.9%
26. Parquet Courts - Human Performance
27. Noname - Telefone
28. NxWorries - Yes Lawd!
29. Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - EARS
30. Esperanza Spalding - Emily’s D+Evolution

I hate seeing these on every list:

2. Frank Ocean - Blonde
5. Kanye West - Life of Pablo
24. Car Seat Headrest - Teens Of Denial

Also Drake's record was better than Rihanna's!

Moka, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 07:14 (nine years ago)

And from the ones I agree with the ones I love and would consider them on my own list:

7. A Tribe Called Quest – We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service
10. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
20. Nicolas Jaar - Sirens
25. Kaytranada - 99.9%
27. Noname - Telefone

Torn between these... voting Noname because I want the hype to go on until she releases Telefone on some sort of physical form.

Moka, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 07:18 (nine years ago)

really nice to see Telefone here but this is My Woman

niels, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 08:15 (nine years ago)

best non-obv album here is the kaitlyn aurelia smith (still voted yoncé)

really wish professional publications would stop humouring artists who write their album titles in all-caps for no reason though

thought everyone hated that nicolas jaar album?

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 09:46 (nine years ago)

ugh, here it is. a pure distillation of the boringness of all the other lists

ATCQ by quite a long way

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 13 December 2016 10:48 (nine years ago)

(that's not so much to slight the other albums here. it's one of the best albums of the last decade)

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 13 December 2016 10:48 (nine years ago)

xp that Jaar album sure was boring on 1st listen

niels, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 10:49 (nine years ago)

that said, had Bee done his job and polled the entire top 50, I'd have voted for Weyes Blood

neglected 31-50 bracket also contains King and other less-boring goodies

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 13 December 2016 10:54 (nine years ago)

write-in vote for the schoolboy q record

gospodin simmel, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 13:24 (nine years ago)

voted life of pablo because it's indisputably the worst record on here, and therefore the best (hi lex)

increasingly bonkers (rushomancy), Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:02 (nine years ago)

The Weyes Blood record & "Do You Need My Love" ranked a lot lower than I expected.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:04 (nine years ago)

atrocity exhibition

The Weyes Blood record & "Do You Need My Love" ranked a lot lower than I expected.

Pitchfork dipped its toe into the avant-medieval prog-folk waters, mistaking it for indie, then retreated. Take her recent London gig - the room was packed out with hipsters, all present and correct for their BNM fix, but, bewildered by the actual music, they didn't know how to respond thereafter and gave a lukewarm-at-best reception. It was kind of heartbreaking

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:17 (nine years ago)

my god are you STILL doing that thing whereby lesser music fans are baffled, confused and bewildered by music apparently only you have the mental capacity to comprehend

lex pretend, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:18 (nine years ago)

yes i am

have you ever been to a gig of someone you think makes amazing music, and the gig was great, but the audience were shit? you'd be feeling the same way

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:23 (nine years ago)

Pretty sure Weyes Blood as an act is firmly a hipster friendly project in all aspects

Evan, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:28 (nine years ago)

'lesser music fans' is a bit specious too. they're just normcore indie types. they have their bliss and i have mine. and 'apparently only you have the mental capacity to comprehend' is harsh as well - weyes blood has loads of enthusiastic fans compared to most modern folk-pop artists. i'm not elitist - i wanted everyone at that gig to respond the way tt and i were! or at least show a bit of enthusiasm idk

imo weyes blood is more of a hardened music-nerd thing than a hipster thing insofar as they're distinct

anyway, back to these albums. let's talk about esperanza spalding or something. that record's well good

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:30 (nine years ago)

WEYES BLOOD
"DIARY [URBAN OUTFITTERS SESSION]"
All clothing provided by Urban Outfitters

Evan, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:33 (nine years ago)

some things never change, and in this crazy world of trumps and lepens and aleppos and drones pedantry is frankly comforting

i've watched a lot of cats do weird and interesting things (slothroprhymes), Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:33 (nine years ago)

we all gotta get profile somehow

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:35 (nine years ago)

final word btw - when i said 'ATCQ by quite a long way' i mean in fact that 'the Mitski album is quite close' - and I know Lex said he dng it but it really should be given a go of by all you gentle folk

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:36 (nine years ago)

Is there really that much of a stretch btwn the Angel Olsen and Weyes Blood records? Don't get the gap here. They sounded really similar - instrumentally as well as their voices - need to revisit.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 15:53 (nine years ago)

Kendrick for me. Very dull list, that.

jon123, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 16:01 (nine years ago)

List needs more elseq

octobeard, Tuesday, 13 December 2016 16:13 (nine years ago)

london gig audiences are often shit and for many reasons but i don't think their weak cognitive capacities is really one of them. that said, imago, if you wanted to see a bad weyes blood audience you should have seen when she played a free show at the old blue last on a saturday night, oooof.

anyway i'm going to vote for kaitlyn aurelia smith, tho i haven't heard the jenny hval yet and imagine it could be a contender

I haven't heard any of these albums. I'm so out of touch with the kids these days.

my fave of the year just made the cutoff, hooray

geoffreyess, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 06:47 (nine years ago)

i liked weyes blood better when she did lo-fi tape loops

Long post, yet important. (crüt), Tuesday, 20 December 2016 07:07 (nine years ago)

i liked weyes blood better when she did lo-fi tape loops

yes! I KNEW she did some noise shit before. I was so confused when I first heard the new record

flappy bird, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 16:24 (nine years ago)

Still elements of that, and a unique sonic sensibility, except with um apologies in advance timeless pop songwriting thrown into the mix too
