guess he won't be showing his neighbors this article...

"Holiday music is sonic propaganda, crackling down at us from ancient mall sound systems and pouring point-blank from the mouths of horrible neighbors."

"this is a deep meditation on eternity and mortality, the cosmic joke of human love in the face of stony time."

i don't get the shabby part. grocery stores are inherently shabby?

"We are in shabby, late-20th-century America."

!!!

"something like a Raymond Carver story crossed with “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” crossed with T.S. Eliot’s “Four Quartets.”..."

I thought might be a different song, a sequel! Needless to say I had never heard of this song until tonight.

never liked the end where the snow turns into rain like that's a good thing. who wants slushy snow/freezing rain?

mookieproof, Friday, 16 December 2016 22:38 (nine years ago)

if you freeze the beginning of that second youtube clip there is a letter from a young fogelberg fan who asks him about the snow into rain line. all your questions are answered!

Still remember seeing Kiki and Jeff do this at a holiday show in Seattle and there was a woman in the audience whose laughter was so shrill for this song in particular I couldn't tell if she was delighted or horrified. (Which probably made the duo perfectly happy.)
