The new George Harrison single

I heard it this morning for the first time and, well it's quite pleasant. George does his trademark whee whhee eeee solo halfway through and Jeff Lynne smothers it in his trademark Jeff Lynne syrup.

However something seemed naggingly familiar about it and halfway through I realised what it was. It's an exact copy of showgirl by the Auteurs, even down to Luke Haines bittersweet sneer. This seems especially ironic as he's one of the few of the Britpop school who can't stand the Beatles. Maybe Macca should give him a call.

Or are my ears deceiving me?

It makes me sick the way Jeff Lynne has got his grubby mits on Beatles recordings - he is everything I HATE about music production.
He should be shot.

ha ha i think our bill's being ironic here, no?

except you missed the bit in the fadeout where george starts this weird hari krishna chant, sounds something like: "fremme neppe venette." what the hell does that mean?

It's "Join the Navy" backwards.

Oh yeah, Fuck Jeff Lynne.

"Kenneth Anger's Bad Dream" (Haines' best moment) is very Harrisonian

No, it genuinely reminds me of Luke Haines. Maybe he and Jeff Lynne should get together and have his records sabotaged by Lynne instead of being sabotaged by Albini.

just heard this and have to agree with billy about its plesantness. but at the same time, it's just so, so cynical. lynne's a parasite of the highest order, no doubt about it.

Lynne apologises for Harrison record.

Which begs the question, why did he go against his wishes?
